Here’s the second style women’s jacket we’ve received that features dual gun pockets! First it was the Forge jacket with classic cruiser styling and now here’s the 35 Special with more modern cruiser styling .
Z1R black leather jackets are well made and sturdy! The leather is thick but soft and has a nice finish to it. And the styling and fit are right on target for the cruiser rider. You’ll find the basics here… quality black leather construction and armor compatiblity, a few creature comforts and of course dual gun pockets!
Take the “View Larger Images” link above to see some good close-ups of the specific features and also those gun pockets. There are actually two gun pockets and each one is lined with a heavy black canvas and also has a couple wide elastic straps to hold the hardware in place. The pockets close with double snaps.
The 35 special offers sleek lines but with a bit of retro styling with the quilted shoulders and sleeve accents. Otherwise the zips are all neatly concealed. I can see this jacket as being suitable for wear off the bike as well as on.
For cooler weather, this jacket comes equipped with a removable full sleeve thermal liner to add a bit of insulation. This jacket has a couple zip vents in the bicep area and two rear exhaust vents which, when open, can move some air through the jacket. But even with the venting features, a black leather jacket like this will be toasty in hot summer temps so consider this jacket as being good for cold to warm weather (but not hot weather).
The 35 Special jacket has provisions for shoulder, elbow and back armor. If you want to add those, we recommend the D3O armor (see links below). For a street style like this, I’d recommend the CE 1 rated armor, and for this ladies style, you’ll want to select the smaller size.
In addition to the interior gun pockets, this model has two zip close hand warmer pockets in front. You can adjust the fit of the hip area a bit with the two concealed side zippers. And there are extra gussets of material behind the shoulders to make this jacket more accommodating for reaching forward for the controls. This feature is sometimes called an “action back”. Also, take note of the extra styling in back. Its sharp! . :: Paul, 07-17-18
