The Solar 3 jacket from REV’IT! Is a light weight and insulated synthetic down-injected, padded mid layer jacket. A mid layer jacket is great for those colder days when you want to keep riding but the weather has different ideas. A mid layer jacket like this one will fit over your base layer, but under your protective motorcycle jacket as a mid layer jacket like this one offers no abrasion resistance or impact protection and is simple worn to protect agains the elements.
From a materials standpoint, the Solar 3 is primarily polyester and features Primaloft® Silver thermal insulation that will keep you warm when the weather gets cold. The cool thing is that on days when mornings are cold but the afternoon isn’t you can easily pack up the Solar 3 jacket in the included compact transport carrier bag allowing it to fit in small storage spaces on your bike like under the seat, in luggage or tank bags or inside your backpack. Considering how puffy and padded this jacket is it really does pack down to a fairly small size, roughly an eight to nine inch tall and roughly a six to seven inch wide pack for a size large.
The other cool thing is that the Solar 3 looks good off the bike too, so you can wear it as a stand alone jacket without motorcycle gear, or as a destination jacket once you get to your destination and are off the bike. Speaking of looks two colors are available, a simple black, as well as a more exciting Camo Blue that looks pretty cool in person. On the outside of the jacket there is a reflective logo on the chest, as well as a reflective logo on the back to help with night time visibility. There is also a chest pocket that is zipper enclosed as well as two slit pockets at the waist. Im also a big fan of the collar, it goes up towards your helmet helming to eliminate as much cold air as possible.
A few other features to note are the elasticated cuff material that allows for more comfort and better fit as well as elastic at the waist band to do the same. Overall the Solar 3 is quite comfortable and can be a real game changer for your riding adventures. With how small it packs down vs how well insulated and comfortable it is I can’t see a reason to not take one along for the ride. :: Damir 5/1/24
