Our Two Cents

The Shade 2 jacket from REV’IT! Is a waterproof jacket that gives off a casual, commuter like vibe and is now in its second generation. Personally when I look at this jacket, the first thing that I think is that it is a colder weather, waterproof version of REV’IT!’s Eclipse jacket, and honestly that is a good thing as the Eclipse has been a customer and staff favorite for years. It has always been a jacket that offered excellent value for the money and I would argue that the Shade 2 is even better as it jumps up the Eclipse’s CE A rating to a CE AA rating. That’s a big win in my book.

Primary construction is going to be softshell 3L which also features a Hydratex Mesh G Liner which is what makes the jacket waterproof. Overall I think the jacket has a good, simple design to it, and I like the choices in the stitching and the panel overlays, it looks simple, but good. On the front there are two zippered pockets, they are hand warmer style and they are a fairly good size, my hands fit comfortably, and I do want to note that the main zipper is recessed so you shouldn’t have to worry about scratching your tank.

A few other nice features to point out is that you get reflective material on both sleeves, there is a two button adjustment at the bicep, velcro strap adjuster at the cuff and the cuff also has a little bit of stretch to it. There is also a large reflective stripe on the back, a wind and water catcher behind the main zipper and the secondary zipper is offset to the side, making  it more effective, especially with water.

The Shade 2 features a removable thermal liner, it is going to be a full sleeve liner and it has a button system for removal, there is also one pocket inside the liner, it is a simple open top pocket with no closure. Opposite of the pocket there is a pocket passthrough cut out that lets you get to a pocket that is on the inside of the jacket. The shade 2 also has room for an optional back protector, a pocket on the right hand side, it has a single button closure, there are jeans loop hooks as well as draw cords at the bottom to adjust the fit.

Looking at armor, the shoulder and elbow armor is included and it is REV’IT!’S SEESMART CE Level 1 armor, which is quite comfortable, breathable and is both T+ and T- rated. One note on the elbow armor is that it is not adjustable, but revit has done a good job lately of ensuring that it is positioned proportionally to the size of the jacket.

Overall the Shade 2 jacket from REV’IT! Offers a good amount of versatility to help with weather changes, offers protection from the wind, is waterproof and also is quite comfortable. This is a very versatile jacket design wise that I think will look good on many different bikes, but I think it will perform exceptionally well in the urban commuter environment based on its level of comfort and mobility as well as casual unassuming style. I think it's a jacket definitely worth checking out. :: Damir 11/1/25
