Our Two Cents

The X1 Alpha helmet from Klim has been in development for over 5 years and it features 4 mode versatility (ADV, Dual Sport, Offroad and Street).  There are quite a few color options available and it comes in 3 shell sizes, the first covers sizes XS-m, the second, L and the third XL-3XL, there are also 5 EPS sizes, XS-S, M, L, XL, and 2x-3X. A size large helmet comes in at roughly 1,550 grams or roughly 3.4 lbs. 

In the box included is a pinlock, a carrying bag, as well as a photochromic shield, keep in mind on the photochromic shield it is only recommended that you use it in street mode as with the visor installed it may make the photochromic shield exhibit uneven tint throughout the visor. 

The outer shell is hand laid carbon fiber with a shell construction process that is designed to reduce imperfections and excess weight. At the center of the front, on the chin, there are two vents, the lower is a vent that is for the helmet interior, and the upper is a vent for the face shield, both are adjustable. The cool thing about the face shield specific vent is that it takes all the air in and then releases it through the front diffuser, this greatly reduces fogging. There are two additional vents on the forehead that are also adjustable, they are also water resistant, and then on the back there are four exhaust vents. 

The visor is easy to open and close and actually features a tab for easy opening on both left and right sides of the visor, most helmets only feature a tab on one side, also the close of the visor has a good feeling to it, it gives confidence that it is properly sealed and that is because there is this fairly large sealing gasket all the way around the shield, it really does a great job keeping things out.

A few things to note about both of the included shields, both the clear and photochromic offer Class 1 optical clarity, they are optically correct as they feature multi-thickness to keep distortion to a minimum, both offer HD vision, a large field of view as well as UV400 protection. And additionally the photochromic shield features infrared shielding which greatly reduces heat buildup inside the helmet. Now the X1 is also offroad compatible so you can remove the shield all together and use goggles instead. Speaking of removing the shield, the entire setup is tool free and the side plates are engineered to self calibrate once the shield is reinstalled to ensure a tight seal. 

Another cool feature is that the peak visor is completely independent of the shield so again taking it off and on is super simple. This is especially important for those times when you are riding offroad and then decide to get on the highway for a period of time and need to quickly go into street mode, with this system it's no problem.

A few other items to point out, the X1 is ECE 2206 and DOT certified, is comes with a built in chin curtain that is stretchable making it easier to get in and out of the helmet, the bottom of the helmet also features a good amount of reflective material, the interior overall is super comfortable, removable, washable, antibacterial and moisture wicking. Additionally on the inside there are speaker cut outs for comms systems.
