The 2020 Klim Traverse jacket is an updated version of the original Traverse from 2017. This new design offers a lighter weight textile shell that has a bonded Gore-Tex liner and comes with elbow and shoulder armor. The matching back protector is optional.
The original Traverse jacket was touted as an “adventure shell”, which means it was a Gore-Tex textile shell much like this new version, but was offered without any armor at all. The idea was you’d have your own favorite protective gear and want a waterproof shell to go over it. But with this new version, the similar Gore-Tex shell is offered but with armor included. The armor is D3O brand like you find in virtually all Klim’s jackets. It is light weight and flexible and very comfortable. The armor inserts in this jacket are rated CE level 1. A pocket for the addition of a back pad is included (see the link below). It’s a very low cost addition and well worth it IMHO.
With a good set of armor included, the Traverse becomes more of an all-purpose riding jacket for those what want something just a bit lighter duty in the Klim lineup. The overall weight of this jacket is noticeably less than the more complex and expensive models. The shell fabric is noticeably thinner as well. So for those whose rides don’t demand the most rugged coverage, this might be just the thing. But rest assured, this is a very high quality product. The shell is a bonded Gore-Tex product meaning the waterproof lining is bonded to the shell material which is a premium product. It is a single layer that keeps water out but also breathes well.
Under each arm of this jacket is a LONG zippered vent that can be used to promote some air flow through for warmer weather use. The shell itself is windproof, so layering underneath with your own clothes or with Klim’s accessory jacket options can take this shell down to colder temps too. You should be able to ride in most of the year, but maybe not during the warmest or the coldest weather where most season-specific gear would be needed.
I like the sharp looks with this jacket. The Black/Kinetic Blue is the one on my desk and the blue zippers and logos make it modern. Also, there are good quality reflective strips on the front and back. Overall, a very nice jacket. :: Paul, 03-27-20
Klim says: The redesigned Traverse is engineered to meet the demands of unpredictable weather conditions found in full seasons of dual-sport riding. Redesigned with a focus on increased comfort and reduced bulk, you get full weather protection with more durability than a regular rain jacket and less bulk than a fully built adventure jacket. The lightweight waterproof jacket will let you ride all season long with the confidence to conquer the weather.
