It rains here in Portland a lot, so we've designed a lightweight, waterproof glove that can beat Poseidon in an arm-wrestling match any soggy Sunday. The Stormhawk™ glove features an abrasion-resistant polyester ripstop chassis paired with a Hipora™ waterproof interior insert. This construction keeps the Stormhawk™ rugged yet low-profile, perfect for 3-season motorcycle riding. The glove also features a rigid knuckle plate and internal D3O® knuckle insert to provide functional backhand coverage. Finally, the Ax® Laredo engineered synthetic palm and palm overlays improve wear and grip properties.

Our Two Cents

The Stormhawk Glove is a short cuff style with a waterproof liner for use in wet weather. Knuckle coverage and a sturdy frame are key features.

This glove is almost the same thing as the Tarmac 2 glove from 2019, but has a shorter cuff. Hmm, well, I can’t claim to be an expert in wet weather riding, but I question how effective a waterproof glove could possibly be with no (or a very short) cuff. Won’t water just come right in at your wrist? If you like this style and don’t think this is an issue, then great, but otherwise why not consider a glove-like the Tarmac 2 or another glove with a bit of a gauntlet to it.

But anyway, more about this glove: This glove has a molded knuckle protector over a D3O armor unit. D3O is an excellent armor material because it is light and very flexible, but it becomes momentarily very firm when impacted. With the inside plushy lining, you won’t even feel the armor.

The material used in the palm of the hand is a man-made leather, which I’ve seen used in numerous glove models by more than one manufacturer. The material is advertised as more abrasion resistant and with better wear than natural leather. And since this glove is aimed at use in wet conditions, I’d expect this material to hold up better than natural leather. :: Paul, 04-26-21
