The Primer jacket by Highway 21 is a great choice for those who want a bit lighter weight jacket that would work as well off the bike as on. This model feels about 30% lighter than the other Highway 21 leather jackets like the Gunner and Gasser models. Its not quite as feature laden either… just the basics.
The brown jacket is my favorite is this style. The leather has a soft, slick finish which gives it sort of a vintage look. The black has a standard, more grainy finish and it is mostly matte (not very shiny). I could easily wear this jacket for casual use and feel totally comfortable.
For impact protection, you get shoulder and elbow armor and a foam back pad. All is removable though if you don’t want to use it (or if you decide to wear the jacket off the bike). This Highway 21 model comes with four pockets in front… two hand warmer and two chest, and there are two inside. One of the the inside pockets is set up for conceal carry. The other would be convenient for your tech and there is a loop to run your headphone wire through. The two upper chest pockets are dual purpose. They are a pocket, but the pocket is lined withe mesh, so they can be used as vents too. Speaking of vents, there is one more horizontal vent in back in addition to the two front pocket vents. The sleeve end zippers have two way pulls so that you can zip down from the elbows end and create a functional zippered vents too. The main zipper is the same kind… you can zip the main zipper up from the bottom so that you can open up the lower few ends of the zipper if you want a little more room when in the sitting position. Overall, the venting is just average, but the lighter weight leather will help make the overall jacket more tolerable in warmer weather. There is no additional removable liner for winter. So this jacket should be good for cool to warm weather.
I do like this style and it being a bit more affordable sweetens the deal too. Check out our studio photos of the brown and you’ll see what I mean about how nice it looks. :: Paul, 02-22-18
