The T-SPS Air V2 jacket from Alpinestars is new for Spring 2025 and is the second version of the T-SPS Air jacket. This jacket is going to be a sport based textile jacket that offers a good amount of ventilation, hence the air in the name, and is designed primarily for urban riding. Primary construction is 600D poly fabric which will result in a CE single A rating. This jacket is Techair compatible.
Sizing is US based with sizes ranging from small to 4 xl. Typically in alpinestars I wear a size XL, at six foot roughly 215 pounds, I tried on a size XL and it fits me as I would expect it to. Keep in mind that this is a sport based jacket so it is designed to fit on the tighter side but I would still say my sizing recommendation is to get whatever size you normally wear in alpinestars or most major european brands.
Lets jump in to some notable features, there is a sort of channel that the zipper essentially hides in, this should keep your zipper from scratching your gas tank, there are two hand warmer style pockets on the front, both have zipper closures, there are velcro strap adjusters at the waist to help with fit, and a similar setup can be found at the cuff. On the back there is a small strip of reflective material at the top, there is an extended back for lower back coverage, it is padded so it holds its shape well.
On the inside of the jacket there are two pockets, on one side it is just a standard mesh pocket with no closure, and on the other is a zippered pocket that is waterproof. One surprising omission for a sport jacket is that it does not have either a short or long connection zipper for mating with riding pants.
Moving on to armor, there is a back protector pocket, the back protector is sold separately, keep in mind this is essentially a two size back protector pocket so you can get the regular back protector, or the full length version. What is included for armor is level 1 nucleon flex plus armor in both the shoulders and the elbows. This is the usual version that Alpinestars uses on its urban and air type jackets as it is quite flexible and is designed to breathe. Two things to note on this armor, first is that the pockets are not adjustable so the armor sits where it sits, but the armor is upgradable, the pockets will accommodate level two armor so you can upgrade if you choose to. One last thing on the included armor, it isn't accessible from the inside, normally there is a pocket with a velcro closure inside the jacket but in this case you don't see it, well its still there but it is actually behind the mesh liner, so to get to it you have to go through the opening at the bottom of the jacket, its soft of hidden, once you undo that velcro you can get in and access both the elbow and shoulder armor located in the traditional pockets that we are used to.
Last but not least on the armor, there is room also for an optional level 2 hook and loop chest protector it would attach on the large velcro pad.
Overall the T-SPS Air V2 jacket from alpinestars does a good job at meeting its design objectives, to look good, be comfortable for urban riding and commuting and to offer plenty of airflow. If you are looking for a light weight sport based jacket it's worth checking out. :: Damir 8/2/25
