The ST-1 Waterproof jacket from Alpinestars is a waterproof, minimalist, adventure touring jacket designed for year round comfort and optimum wet weather performance. Overall construction is a combination of a fixed waterproof membrane liner, a removable thermal liner, and a 600 D poly fabric blend. The combination of materials and the included CE LEvel 1 Nucleon Flex Plus armor at both the elbow and shoulders gives the ST-1 Jacket a CE Level A rating overall for impact and abrasion resistance. Additionally there are pockets for optional back and divided chest protectors that are purchased separately. The ST-1 Jacket is Tech-Air® ready.
Looking at comfort and convenience there are velcro based adjuster tabs at the waist, button tabs at the bicep, and additional velcro adjusters at the cuff allow you to customize the fit of the jacket. Looking at pockets there is an A-symmetrical pocket on the front chest, there are fold over, velcro closure main pockets on the front (usually when you have fold over top loading/closing pockets on the front you lose hand warmer pockets, but in this caste there are handwarmer pockets underneath the top load pockets giving you the best of both worlds, I love dual function pockets like that). There is also one large, kangaroo pouch like pocket on the back that has a velcro closure and then on the inside the jacket features one simple mesh pocket on one side with a waterproof, zipper closure pocket on the other side. There are no pockets or passthroughs on the removable internal thermal liner. Speaking of liners, the interior of the main shell is also lined with a nice mesh liner for added comfort.
Moving back to the outside, the main closure is a large zipper but it is protected/covered by a flap that is held down by velcro, there is also a velcro adjuster at the collar. Reflective bits are included at the top of the chest but surprisingly there are none on the back. Another thing strange about the back is that the front features vents on the chest just above the reflective spots but there isnt an exhaust vent on the rear. The ST-1 jacket also features both a long and short connection zipper to connect to the ST-1 pants as well as other Alpinestars pants. Last pieces to note are that there is an extended back for optimal coverage as well as some really nice sticked designs on the back, shoulders and biceps areas adding additional style to the jacket. And speaking of style I think this is a really good looking jacket that fits well and comes in four different colors, black, dark blue/black/bright red, ice gray/black/yellow fluo, as well as dark khaki sand/ black/ red fluo, in my opinion all four colors look great, but the gray/hi viz looks especially good in person.
Overall sizing is comfortable, I would call it a regular fit and as size XL fit me just like it should as it’s the size I normally wear so the suggestion here is to just size like you normally do. Overall I think the ST-1 is an excellent jacket that looks good, performs well in wet weather and has solid protection with Level 1 armor and a CE A rating. Definitely worth checking out. :: Damir 1/3/25
