Our Two Cents

The Moblast Waterproof jacket from Alpinestars is a waterproof jacket from their Moto Streetwear Equipment Collection, basically their urban commuter line, and it really is more of a hoodie than it is a jacket. Construction wise we have a mix of softshell ripstop, stretch ripstop, and a fixed, fully seam taped, waterproof membrane. The Moblast is going to be CE A rated.

Taking a look at sizing the moblast jacket comes in sizes from XS to 4XL, and has a fairly tailored fit, but it isn’t overly tight. At 6 foot, roughly 215 pounds, I typically wear a size XL in Alpinestars Jackets and here in the Moblast a size XL fits me exactly as I would expect it to. Our recommendation is to get whatever size you normally wear in alpinestars or most major european brands and you should find a good fit.

Taking a look at a few of the details, the main zipper is waterproof, has a good size pull tab to make it easy to use while wearing gloves, and it has a zipper cover at the neck to make sure that your zipper doesn't irritate your neck when fully zipped up. There is also a zipper cover at the bottom to keep it from scratching your gas tank. Inside the zipper there is an extended wind catcher flap which features an additional folded over flap at the edge to further help with keeping water out.  Two handwarmer style pockets on the front with zipper closure, but do keep in mind that the zippers are not waterproof.

At the bottom of the hoodie there is a nice band that goes around the waist, it’s that stretch ripstop material so it keeps the bottom of the jacket nice and tight against your waist which helps with keeping water out and with keeping the jacket from riding up. Speaking of keeping things in place, there is more stretch ripstop at the cuffs and there are thump loop holes on the inside of the sleeves to keep your sleeves down.

Something unique to this jacket and what I believe might be one of the main draws to it is the fact that the armor in the shoulders and elbows is externally removable with zippered pockets. The included armor is low profile nucleon flex plus armor that is CE Level 1 rated, but obviously with these pockets you can upgrade to level 2 if you would like. The included armor is highly breathable, highly flexible and is T+ and T- rated.  One last thing to keep in mind, is that the armor is not adjustable.

Overall a fairly solid hoodie, my only real complaint is the fact that I don’t see any reflective materials. Alpinestars could have easily made the entire middle gray section reflective or at the bare minimum made the logo reflective, but unfortunately they decided to skip the reflective materials altogether.

On the inside, there is a long velcro piece, this is for the optional, one piece, chest protector that simply velcros in place. And at the back of the jacket there is a pocket for the optional back protector that we always highly recommend.

On the inside there is also a thermal vest. Super easy to take in and out, there is one long zipper, and then two button loops, once those are undone the vest comes out. One thing to note about the vest is that it doesn't feature any pockets or pocket passthroughs.

A few things to point out about the hood, there is a stretchy band on the hood instead of a drawstring, there is a button on the back to pin the hood down while riding, but there is also a button on the inside as well so that you can roll up the hood and pin it down on the inside. Kind of a unique design here, I haven't seen that before, typically it's just the outside anchor that most hoodies use.

Alright to wrap up the interior there are jeans loop hooks, there is a mesh pocket with a velcro top closure on the right side, and a fully waterproof, zippered pocket on the left side.

Overall the Moblast Jacket from Alpinestars delivers commuter level safety, while providing excellent comfort and style, all in a waterproof package. If you are looking for a casual look while staying safe during your commute or urban ride, the Moblast is worth checking out.  :: Damir 12/1/25
