These jackets are sold in US based “alpha” sizes, so selecting a size is basically pretty easy. The size Medium and XL jackets fit Huey and Dewey, our Fit Check mannequins very nicely! Also, we checked several sizes with a tape. We found the sizing to be comparable to standard men’s clothing sizes. So our primary advice would be to choose the size you normally wear in men’s clothing.

Alpinestars publishes a super-complicated size chart which can be used to pick a size based upon your chest and waist. We’ve condensed their chart down to make it easy to read (see below). You can use this size chart to check your own measurements against the size chart to make sure the size you select will work. Choose a size that is big enough for both your chest and belly.

Please note, this style has a slightly more aggressive drop from chest to belly than typical for this type of jacket. Be sure to the max waist/belly is large enough if you have a bit of a belly, but don’t be concerned if your belly is smaller than the size listed below because this jacket has effective side waist adjustment straps.

Our Two Cents

The Alpinestars Luc v2 Air jacket is designed with the summer commute in mind.

Large mesh panels cover the front, back, and under side of the arms on this mesh jacket allowing air to flow through freely. Combined with the thin Nucleon Flex Plus armor this jacket will be lightweight and flexible. There are pockets to upgrade to optional Nucleon chest and back protectors as well. Note, the chest protector pockets are only accessible through the zipper at the bottom of the back of the jacket.

There are two zippered hand pockets at the belly and two internal hook and loop storage pockets. At the waist are hook and loop adjusters so you can snug the belly down to fit if needed. Inside the rear of the jacket are two snap loops to attach the jacket to pants via the belt loops.

5 subtle color choices give you lots of options, and there is another Honda version (see related products below) for a slightly sportier look in the same jacket.
