The Alpinestars Halo Drystar Jacket is a 3-4 season adventure touring jacket that can be adapted to multiple weather conditions. This jacket uses Alpinestars proprietary waterproofing technology, Drystar® which remains breathable. Speaking of breathability, it is really this jackets strong suit, with its asymmetric front construction it is able to feature a large vent panel on the front that is complimented by an equally large vent panel on the back providing optimal airflow. Additionally if you are in need of even more air, the sleeve shells can be removed via zipper exposing full mesh sleeves that will provide extreme levels of airflow. Keep in mind that this jacket’s CE Level AA rating drops down to CE Level A with the sleeve shells removed.
From a protection stand point as mentioned this jacket with the sleeve shells installed is a CE Level AA rated jacked that features CE Level 2 Nucleon Flex Pro armor (Alpinestar’s proprietary armor that provides Level 2 protection while maintaining excellent flexibility and comfort, it is in line with some of the slimmest and most comfortable CE Level 2 armor currently available). Keep in mind that on this particular jacket the armor is sewn in and can not be removed. For additional protection the Alpinestars Halo Drystar jacket is Tech-Air® 5 Airbag System ready and has pockets for an optional back protector as well as an optional single piece design chest protector.
Let’s talk convenience, the Halo Drystar jacket features multiple pockets including a front kangaroo pouch style pocket that closes via a hook and loop secured flap, it also features one equally sized pocket behind the kangaroo pouch that is accessed via the two side zippers, a great place to warm up your hands if stopping in cold conditions. There is a similarly sized and styled kangaroo pouch pocket on the rear of the jacket featuring the same additional zipper side internal pocket access as well as additional water proof pockets on each side of the jacket. Lastly on the inside of the jacket the chest protector pocket can be repurposed in to a regular pocket and there is an additional waterproof pocket underneath it as well. Another cool convenience feature is that the included Drystar waterproof and breathable rain jacket can be worn on the inside or outside of the main shell and comes with its own pocket allowing it to be folded in on itself making it extremely packable (it will fit in both the back pocket or the integrated pocket). The rain jacket can also be worn as a stand alone jacket off the bike and does feature Fluo yellow color inserts for additional visibility.
From a comfort standpoint the Alpinestars Halo Drystar Jacket features an internal waist belt on the main shell for an optimized fit as well as multi-adjustment arms for a more comfortable and tailored fit. Additionally it features a soft collar construction for rider comfort as well as stretch wrist construction.
Materials on the Alpinestars Halo Drystar Jacket are primarily 1200D Polyester Rip Stop on the main shell which includes PU shoulder reinforcements for additional strength and durability.
The Alpinestars Halo Drystar Jacket is really geared towards adventure and dual sport riders that are using their gear both on road and off road and really is a purpose built jacket. It will be a bit more dedicated than say the Monteira Drystar XF Jacket that can be used a bit more casually and practically and would be a bit better served for commuting and touring than the Halo Drystar Jacket. :: Damir 3-9-24
