The AMT-8 jacket from Alpinestars is a part of their Alpinestars Motion Technology line and is considered what Alpinestars calls an “Active Fit” Adventure Jacket. Overall construction is 92% polmaide and 8% elastane, and the internal, removable membrane is 100% polyester. Level 2 Nucleon Plasma Pro armor is included for both the shoulders and elbows, as are zippers and attachment points for the Tech-Air® 7x. There are pockets for both a divided chest protector as well as a back protector, both accessories are purchased separately. Overall the jacket earns a CE AA rating for impact and abrasion resistance.
Overall comfort is great as the jacket is super stretchy and comfortable with pre-curved arms, ergonomic elbows, and a contoured bottom edge, as well as maximum ventilation with vents on the chest and arms. These vents provide a high level of cooling airflow when open, as they act as scoops to capture air from the incoming airstream and force the vents to take the maximum air possible, additionally the AMT-8 Jacket features Alpinestars’ hyperflow venting system which provides an increased surface area of air exchange, with the side vents on the chest held open via their internal shock cord retention system. On the back of the jacket the AMT-8 also has an exhaust port with a shingle design, meaning the back vent always stays open to exhaust the incoming air from the front.
Moving on to adjusters and pockets, there are adjusters at the cuffs, as well as forearms, with a drawstring cord for adjusting the waist as well as a new storm collar design with a bungie adjuster to prevent water ingress (it also features an integrated chin guard). Looking at pockets, there is a waterproof inner pocket, ergonomic front cargo pockets that feature revers really inspired intry for better utility and practicality, a rear utility cargo pocket with double entry, perfect for storing the the WP Drystar®XF liner (which is self-packable into a small built-in bag for easy storage). And speaking of the liner, it works externally as a wind blocker and rain protector or worn on the inside as just a wind blocker. Additionally the AMT-8 jacket features a new design long connection zipper to connect with the AMT-8 pants.
Overall the jacket is super comfortable, looks great and is super stretchy. It comes in two colors, either black or Brown/Dark Khaki, both of which look really good. There is a ton to like about this jacket but I have two major complaints with it. The first doesn’t interfere with the functionality of the jacket but it would bother me, on the left chest there are laminated or heat pressed on letters underneath the solid line under the AMT logo, these are super small and look like they barely have enough surface area to adhere to the fabric because of how small they are. These letters will rub off super quickly and start to fall off leaving the jacket with a missing letter or more (how do I know that, well I have seen it before, and also a few letters on our jacket that we were testing out were already starting to come off).
My second major complaint for this jacket is more than cosmetic and that is the sizing, like the AMT-8 pants, even with all the stretch in the material I had to go up one possibly even two sizes to get a good fit. Depending on how tight you like your jacket to fit you will most likely need to go up one size, something to definitely consider. I would highly recommend trying on this jacket in person to get the right fit. :: Damir 1/6/25
