The Noru Hakken mesh pants are the mesh version of the Hakken adventure line of pants from Noru. Overall construction is a combination of an abrasion resistant outer shell with overlay reinforcements as well as an Air-flo mesh for ventilation. The pants are not CE rated, but that is not uncommon since Noru is a USA based company, many USA based companies skip the CE ratings as that is technically a European standard. Speaking of safety, level 2 Armanox hip and knee armor is included.
Looking at sizing and cut, the Hakken pants are available in sizes from small to 3xl, only come in one length and have a regular cut, meaning that they are not super tight or loose but instead have a pretty comfortable, touring or adventure style fit. In most touring/adventure pants I wear a size XL (six foot, about 215 lbs.) and the XL here fits me as I would expect it to. From a length standpoint the inseam on a size XL is 32 inches which again is pretty standard for that size. Some adjustments are available for fit, there is a hook and loop tab at the bottom of the pant legs to adjust how wide or narrow the openings are, and there is a ratchet like belt strap on one side of the waist to ensure proper fit (there are also belt hoops in case you want to wear an additional belt).
Lets jump into some features, the main closure is a combination of a main zipper and velcro, and there is a gaiter behind the zipper to ensure the elements stay out. Additionally there is a fairly large flap covering the main closure, again further keeping the inside of the pants dry. The back of the pants features a short connection zipper so the pants can connect to the Noru Hakken jacket line, and the back part of the pants is slightly raised to offer additional lower back coverage. Another nice feature is the addition of leather panels on the inside of the pant legs to provide better grip against the gas tank as well as additional resistance to wear and tear. Lastly at the bottom of the pant legs there is a velcro section that opens up and expands to make getting the pants on over boots much easier.
Looking at comfort and convenience, there are two pockets that can be used as hand warmer pockets, they are both sealed with zippers and then just below them are cargo pockets (one on each side) that are considered waterproof and feature a folded over velcro closures. Lastly the Hakken pants are a three layer pant, there is the main outer shell, the waterproof liner and the thermal liner all of which are removable and held in place with a simple zipper system. Keep in mind that both the thermal and waterproof liners are not finished, meaning that they can not be worn on their own and only work on the inside of the pants.
Overall the Hakken Adventure Mesh Pants punch well above their price point, fit comfortably, look good and offer a ton of value for the money. The Hakken Adventure Mesh Pants are available in an all black or a light grey/dark grey color way.If you are looking for a solid pair of adventure pants with a more approachable/budget friendly price tag, these pants are definitely worth looking at. Outside of some of our epic closeout deals the feature to price point ratio on the Hakken pants line will be very difficult to beat. Additionally if you would prefer a textile version of these pants, they are available as well in the Hakken Adventure Waterproof/textile pants. :: Damir 3/25
