REV'IT! Discovery GTX Boots

The Discovery GTX motorcycle boots are designed for all-weather adventure riders who need the stability and safety of off-road boots, the features and user-friendliness of a tour boot, and the comfort of a trekking boot. We’ve equipped them with the waterproof and breathable GORE-TEX membrane to keep your feet dry and feeling good in any type of weather.

Closure:
  • Boa® fit system
  • Boa® M4 Platform

The unique Boa® fit system makes for a perfect fit, an extremely fast closure and a very light weight boot. Enter the shoe, push the knob to engage, turn it for the perfect fit, and pull up on the knob for a quick release. Once locked in place the Boa® reels and laces stay that way. Made from aircraft-grade stainless steel, Boa® laces are stronger per gram than tank armor.

Lining:
  • 3D mesh
Features:
  • Gusseted tongue construction
  • Integrated gear shift pad
  • Ortholite® insole Imperial recycled foam
  • PP insole with integrated shank
  • Rubber gear shift pad
Waterproofing:
  • 3 L GORE-TEX Performance Jazz Gusset
  • 4L GORE-TEX Performance Rock
  • GORE-TEX membrane
Protection:
  • Injected ankle cup
  • Reinforced side panel
  • SEESOFT™ protection at tongue
  • Thermoformed heel cup
  • Thermoformed shin plate

The heel of the boot is reinforced for added safety. The rider won’t notice it while wearing as the hard plastic has been heated to mold it into the perfect shape. The reinforced heel cup also contributes to a better posture of the foot.

Heat is used to shape the shin plate, as the shin is a very vulnerable place on a rider’s bike and requires an exact, customized fit. The REV’IT! shin plate conforms exactly to your body for ultimate protection.

Outer shell material:
  • CORDURA® 500D
  • Omega leather
  • Cowhide
  • Suede leather with WR finish
Visibility:
  • Reflection at heel
Sole:
  • Vibram® Apex Sole

The combined expertise of the Italian company Vibram® and our in-house developers led to the birth of the revolutionary Vibram® Apex sole. This sole has been specifically developed for adventure motorcycling but offers the comfort of a trekking boot. Its profile features one distinct area for traction, one for braking and one for stability. The surface of the sole is a bit larger providing more comfort while walking. The durable material and construction ensure this sole will last.

Certification:
  • These boots or shoes are certified according to the EN 13634 Standard, published in 2017 and have achieved level 2 | 2 | 2 | 2 | WR | SRB | IPS rating.

Sizing Information

Beginning with some new boots models in the 2018 lineup, REVIT has a new size conversion chart. The chart is listed below. Generally speaking, the boots run smaller than in past seasons for a given size. Their new chart reflects the smaller sizing. Using the new chart, you’ll be buying a boot that is 1/2 to one size bigger than you might have chosen by using the conversion in past years. We tried on this model and confirmed the smaller fit.

Our fit advice is to use the chart below to choose an EU size based upon your US street shoe size, while keeping in mind you maybe be choosing one size larger than you may have bought from REVIT in past seasons.

Note: The discovery Outdry boot seems to run even a bit smaller than other new boots this season… Its not enough to advise you to buy larger than the new chart would indicate, but if you are between sizes in the chart, choose the larger.

Our Two Cents

The REV’IT! Discovery GTX boots are an update on their previous model that used their in house proprietary H2O Hydraliner. Now you have the performance of Gore-Tex built into a great dual sport/adventure riding boot.

The Discovery GTX boot is the middle child of REV’IT!’s adventure boot line. The top dog is the Expedition GTX, which has extreme performance in mind with it’s Dynamic Support Frame that performs more like a Motocross boot and is slightly taller and beefier than the Discovery. The step down would be the Pioneer GTX boots which are shorter and therefore do not have the shin protection seen here. All three boots use the BOA lace system, which is a fantastic update on the millennia old lace-up technology we are all used to. With BOA you simply turn a knob to tighten or pull the knob to release. The BOA knob on these boots is behind the substantial shin guard.

Aside from the shin guard you also have the normal protection features you expect in a motorcycle boot. There are ankle protection, a heel cup, and a reinforced toe box. There is even SeeSoft™ protection on the tongue so if you take a stinger on the shin that nails the BOA knob through the outer shin guard you’ve got padding to absorb the hit. There is also reflective material at the heel of the boots for nighttime visibility.

Key to performance on and off the bike, the REV’IT! Discovery GTX boot has a Vibram® Apex sole. This sole is stiff in the instep where you need it on the bike. But it also has enough flex that you can comfortably walk around in the boots off the bike and the various tread patterns should help you maintain traction on just about any surface within reason. The boots also look like a normal hiking style boot if you have pants that go over the boot.

The REV’IT! Discovery GTX boots are the perfect adventure/dual sport boot for riders that want something that will perform as well on the bike as at the destination. The Gore-Tex membrane will keep your foot dry and comfortable while sections of the tongue and above the heel will allow that membrane to breathe in hot weather. :: Mike, 07/28/2022
