The AMT-8 Stretch Drystar XF Pants from Alpinestars are an adventure pant that was designed for long range riding. Overall construction is a combination of polyamide and elastane for the outer shell and 100% polyester for the waterproof and windblocking removable membrane. The pants include Alpinestars Nucleon Plasma Pro level 2 knee armor as well as Level 1 Nucleon Flex plus hip armor, the combination of armor and materials used give the AMT-8 pants an overall CE AA rating for impact and abrasion resistance.
Jumping in to comfort and convenience, overall comfort is great as the materials are super stretchy. Overall fit is considered “active touring” with pre-curved legs and ergonomic knees, this, paired with the 100% stretch design provides great all day comfort for those really long rides. Additionally the weather abilities for these pants are solid as you have plenty of ventilation in the long zippered vent ports found on the thighs great for those warmer days, but also with the removable waterproof Drystar®XF stretch liner you can wear it externally to block both wind and water or internally for just wind protection. And once removed it easily folds up into its own built-in storage pocket making it easy to store and haul (it fits perfectly in the back pocket of the matching AMT-8 Jacket). And speaking of pockets there are cargo pockets that are reverse rally inspired that allows for fast and comfortable access to the pockets by either hand.
Additionally the pants feature a fixed liner with a comfortable fabric on the back of the waistband, an adjustable, magnetic closure for the buckle, a seamless, stretch crotch construction which further aids comfort and a new “invisible when not in use” connection system that connects the AMT pants to the AMT jacket. There are also stretch accordion panels on the calves, this allows the pants to be worn either on the inside or outside of the boot, as well as additional goat leather knee panels that provide the maximum level of contact feel with the bike while providing extra durability. At the bottom of the pant legs there are long zippers for easy entry.
Overall a very stretchy and comfortable pant that offers good protection with a CE AA rating and good armor, the main issue with the AMT-8 pant however is the sizing. Personally for me the fit is horrible as i had to go two sizes up to get the waist and thighs to work (I had a second staff member in a different size check this and they had the same problem) but then with two sizes up the length is super long and thus places the armor completely out of place. I would say that unless you are a tall and skinny build and prefer skinny jeans levels of fit you will probably struggle to get this sizing to work for you. Even with all of the built in stretch, zippers and adjustment I could not get these pants to fit me correctly. I would highly recommend trying on a pair before ordering. :: Damir 1/4/25
