Sizing Information
Like most Alpinestars gloves, these gloves run a bit smaller than most glove brands we carry. And in a race glove like this that is made to fit pretty snugly the smaller fit is even more of an issue, therefore I’d recommend you buy one size larger than you normally buy in most brands (other than Alpinestars). If you are sometimes between sizes, then choose the larger of the two. Hopefully you’ve had some experience with buying gloves and can choose based upon the fit of a previous pair. If you have no previous experience with glove sizing, go here for help.
Our Two Cents
The Alpinestars Phenom Gloves are a short cuff leather glove that are also available in a perforated “Air” version.
The palm of the Phenom gloves are identical between the two versions with goat leather featuring suede overlays in impact and high wear areas. The thumb feels like microfiber and there is a stretch panel between the thumb and palm for comfort.
On the back of the thumb there are thin foam pads and you will find slightly thicker foam padding on all of the fingers except the ring finger. The pinky padding is on the side of the finger with a suede overlay for improved abrasion resistance in this key impact area. The same suede overlay with foam padding is found in the palm and on the ulnar side of the cuff. Additionally at the cuff you have a small pull on tab and a hook and loop closure to keep the gloves on your had securely. The back of the hand features a hard knuckle protector over foam padding for comfort.
The only difference between the two styles is that the “Air” version has a perforated backhand for a little more breathability. The Phenom gloves have touchscreen material on the index fingers and thumb that work well on Android and Apple devices here at the shop. Even the fingers that do not have the touchscreen material seemed to work fine as well.
Overall the Alpinestars Phenom gloves are a good option for the rider that wants a leather chassis with good protection in the key areas and a minimalist look. :: Mike, 03/16/2024
