Our Two Cents

Tour Master has two new versions of their popular Solution boots this year. The Solution WP has an internal waterproof liner and will be ideal for wet weather in colder to mild temps. The Solution air shares the same basic overall design, but does not have the waterproof liner, but adds mesh panels to allow air to flow through for comfort in warm summer temps. Both versions are available in men’s standard and wide sizes and also women’s sizes. Please take the links below to view the other versions and genders of each.

We’ve been selling various versions of the Solution boots for years (heading into the second decade actually). This new version is updated with more substantial ankle protectors and a better looking toe shift pad. The overall height is reduced just a touch also. It’s hard to know for sure, but the soles on these new boots feel more substantial and better formed than previous versions. Both versions are a well-priced boot which will give good value for the everyday rider for commuting or touring.

All the basic protection features are here. You get protectors over each ankle, reinforced areas around the toe, heel, and shin as well as a reinforced sole. Notice the new molded rubber pad over the toe area to protect the boot from the shifter. These look nice and should function well. The side-zip style is easy-on/easy-off and the lack of laces cuts down the possibility of anything coming untied and getting tangled in machinery.

Choose the WP version if your riding will take you into inclement weather. The waterproof lining in the WP will also make this version warmer overall, so they’ll work better for you in the fall, spring and winter. As you can see in the pictures of the Air version, the mesh material is used over the foot and the ankle/shin. I can tell with a lip lock test, air flows freely through the panel over the ankle and shin, but the boot’s lining seems to be blocking airflow over the mesh covering the forefoot. I’m not sure you’d want full flow all over the forefoot anyway, but I thought I’d mention it in case anybody notices it.

Both versions get flex panels in the front and back to make them easy to walk in and the inside of the boot is lined with a cushy breathable fabric over some thin foam padding. The sole is very firmly bonded to the upper and feels like it would give a lot of life. :: Paul, 04-20-21
