Sizing Information

We checked the fit on these jackets with our size mannequins and we also spot checked a few different size jackets with a tape. We feel this model runs true to size. The jackets are sold in ordinary “alpha” sizes, so you can choose the size you normally wear in men’s clothing.

For those that want to check the size based upon their chest measurement, we put together the chart below. This chart shows the chest size ranges for each jacket and max belly. The taper on the jackets is very mild, so most people (even those with a bit of a belly) should easily find a fit. Just make sure the size you choose will be big enough for both your chest and belly. if you have a more athletic build (big drop from chest to belly size), then this one might not be a good choice since there isn’t any adjustability on the fit of the waist. Average to stout people should find an easy fit.

Jacket Size Max Chest Max Belly
Small 40 38
Medium 42 40
Large 44 42
XL 46 44
XXL 49 47
XXXL 52 50
XXXXL 56 54

Our Two Cents

The new Highway 21 Murtaugh Jacket is a classically styled “Marlon Brando” style jacket aimed at cruiser riders, or at even those wanting a jacket like this for casual wear. The jacket is “ready” for armor.

I really like the look and feel of this jacket. The leather is sturdy and soft and won’t require a lot of breaking in. All the hardware is an antique brass color, and is heavy duty, especially the main zipper. This classic style has an offset zipper design with the large lapel. In warmer weather, you can wear the labels snapped down, but in cooler weather, you can fold the lapels up and raise the collar to get a little more coverage up around your neck. Another typical styling queue for this style jacket is the “action back” which are the folds behind each shoulder. Those give quite a bit of extra reach needed when you grab the controls on the bike.

This jacket has four pockets in front and on the outside, and then inside there is one breast pocket. The inside is lined with a quilted nylon material. The liner is not insulated. For summer use, the sleeve ends have two-way zippers so you can zip those sleeve zippers down from the top and it creates a vent at the end of the sleeve.

This style jacket has a waist belt with a buckle in front. It’s one more thing you have to mess with in putting the jacket on, so if you decide you don’t like the look of the belt, it is removable and you can leave it at home. Nearly every jacket in this style I’ve seen come with the belt.

Pockets for the addition of armor are located in the liner. You can add shoulder, elbow or back. Those links are provided below if you want to add the armor. At the time of our writing, Highway 21 doesn’t offer their own “house brand” of armor, but we tried the D3O in the jacket and it fits just fine. It is really nice stuff. I’d recommend the CE level 1 choice for the elbows and shoulders because the level 2 protectors might be too thick.

These Highway 21 leather jackets are VERY reasonably priced for the quality level. These jackets are a lot better than similar styles you sometimes see sold at riding events. :: Paul, 11-18-19

Highway 21 says: The Highway 21 Murtaugh Jacket proves nothing is ever truly too old by combining classic styling with traditional function for the modern rider. This jacket is made from premium cowhide leather and features a large front conceal carry D-pocket, reminiscent of the ‘map pockets’ favored by early aviators and motorcyclists. Aged brass hardware and a real leather belt that can be modified for use in your jeans round out this classic jacket.
