Sizing Information
We checked the fit on these jackets with our size mannequins and we also spot checked a few different size jackets with a tape. We feel this model runs true to size. The jackets are sold in ordinary “alpha” sizes, so you can choose the size you normally wear in men’s clothing.
For those that want to check the size based upon their chest measurement, we put together the chart below. This chart shows the chest size ranges for each jacket and max belly. The taper on the jackets is very mild, so most people (even those with a bit of a belly) should easily find a fit. Just make sure the size you choose will be big enough for both your chest and belly. if you have a more athletic build (big drop from chest to belly size), then this one might not be a good choice since there isn’t any adjustability on the fit of the waist. Average to stout people should find an easy fit.
Jacket Size | Max Chest | Max Belly |
---|---|---|
Small | 40 | 38 |
Medium | 42 | 40 |
Large | 44 | 42 |
XL | 46 | 44 |
XXL | 49 | 47 |
XXXL | 52 | 50 |
XXXXL | 56 | 54 |
Our Two Cents
Sure the Gunner jacket by Highway 21 is a good looking full leather jacket, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen a style like this with more vents! So if you like the look and feel of a leather jacket but also ride in warm weather, then here’s your jacket.
The leather used in this jacket is thick, but soft and shouldn’t be a big deal to break in. The thickness of the leather will give the abrasion protection you need on the bike in case you fall, and it will also be welcome when the temps dive in the fall and spring. And this jacket is one of the few I’ve encountered that offers a grey option… check it out. It is slightly distressed so it has a very soft finish and looks sharp. The black option is the standard finish (not distressed).
The big deal with this jacket is the zip vent capability. There are many, they are large and they even have strategically placed snaps along side them to help hold them open like a scoop so you can get really good air flowing through this jacket. If I’m counting them all, I see a total of 12 of them! They are on the front, the sleeves, the sides… even under the arms. The sleeve end zippers have two way pulls so that you can zip down from the elbows end and create a functional zippered vents too. The main zipper is the same kind… you can zip the main zipper up from the bottom so that you can open up the lower few ends of the zipper if you want a little more room when in the sitting position. Anyway, have a look at our photo gallery to see them all. You also get a full sleeve liner to add some wind block and insulation in colder temps.
For impact protection, you get shoulder and elbow armor and a foam back pad. Its decent stuff and more than you get with most cruiser style jacket. All is removable though if you don’t want to use it. This Highway 21 model comes with a standard lineup of pockets, but also an interior gun pocket as well. The two upper chest pockets are dual purpose. They are a pocket, but the pocket is lined withe mesh, so they can be used as vents too.
Notice the “action back” design” behind each shoulder. That feature is a good one for a heavy leather jacket like this. It gives you some room to move across the back of your chest so that you can easily reach up for the handlebars.
With all the venting features and the removable thermal liner, this traditional leather jacket will give just about as much comfort across a wide range of temps as you’ll find. :: Paul, 02-22-18
