Merlin Barrett Mesh D3O® Gloves:- The unique 3D printed check onto the back of the hand makes Barrett a really special urban or retro, lightweight glove for spring and summer riding. Air mesh panels cover the fore fingers, with a 3D printed textile panel to the back of the knuckles and fingers, leather can be found at the wrist with a soft microfiber palm. Beneath the solid knuckle is D3O’s impact foam sheet as well as at the scaphoid. Barrett also has digital touch tips for use on phone or sat nav devices.

These gloves are consistent with the major brands we’ve carried—Tour Master, Joe Rocket, Olympia, etc, so hopefully you’ve had some experience with buying gloves and can choose based upon the fit of a previous pair. If you have no previous experience with glove sizing, go here for help.
Our Two Cents
The Merlin BARRETT MESH D3O® GLOVE is a part of their Leisure Moto Collection and is considered an urban, short cuff, warm weather riding glove. If you are looking for gloves that are simple, look really good, and are form fitting (many riding gloves are a bit bulky and almost make your fingers look chunky, not the case here, the Barrett glove fits really well and looks like it adds minimal bulk/size) these might be the gloves for you. With a CE Level 1 KP protection rating and a solid mould knuckle overlay that features D3O® Sheet Protection underneath it with additional D3O® Foam Scaphoid Protection there is definitely some protection in these gloves. For a protection/safety first and heavily focused individual such as myself I would like to see more protection, especially in the way of a hard palm slider, but that would defeat the purpose of these gloves, which is to keep things light, airy and minimal/understated.
Overall construction is a mixture of goat leather which is used on the uff, strong polyester mesh panels, a 35 printed textile knuckle, soft microfiber panels at the palms as well as leather pipe trim. For comfort and convenience the fingers are pre curved, there are accordion stretch panels on the index and middle fingers, as well as a hook and loop enclosure to make glove entry and wrist adjustability simple. The thumb and index finger are also touch screen compatible and performed well with both Android and iPhone devices in our testing.
Again, overall branding is fairly subtle as is the overall look and design. These gloves are comfortable, fit spot on from what I expect a size Large (my usual size) to fit like and are very form fitting minimizing the bulk and providing great breathability as well as dexterity. If you are a rider looking for a great looking and fitting glove that is simple and minimal while still providing some protection for your urban riding adventures, the BARRETT MESH D3O® GLOVE from Merlin is worth a look. :: Damir 6/5/24
