The new Intake Air jacket by Tourmaster is a short waist, more sporty textile jacket make for everyday use. It offers a removable waterproof liner and a thermal liner as well to extend it’s usable temp range. This jacket’s outer shell if mostly mesh material so you can be comfortable in hot weather. Compare this jacket to it’s brother (and sister in the women’s sizes) Intake jacket which has a solid textile shell vents along with the same removable liners and armor. The main difference with this “Air” version is that it will be usable in very hot conditions, but less usable in colder weather. So if your climate skews toward mild winters and hot summers, this Intake Air is the version for you. An option back protector is available. As with many new Tour Master jackets for 2021, the version number of the model has been reset so the name of this newest version is simply “Intake Air Jacket”. This jacket is now offered with two removable liners… a waterproof liner and a vest-type thermal liner. You can mix and match those in the jacket depending upon the weather conditions. Without any liners installed, this jacket will work as well as nearly any mesh jacket for comfort in hot weather. When the rain comes, or the temps go down, you can use the two liners to help you out.
For storage, you get a “standard” number of pockets. In front, you get two zippered handwarmer pockets, and in the back is a fanny pocket. Inside, you’ll find a couple of patch pockets. Adjusters are included for a custom fit on the sides of the waist and on the arms too.
Tour Master is featuring SafeTech brand armor in their 2020 and later products. The jacket includes shoulder and elbow armor inserts that are CE level 2 rated. The material is a more flexible and “squishy” rubberized material, which I think is an improvement in comfort over past designs using less flexible black solid rubber. The jacket has a fabric pocket for a back protector. The jacket comes standard with a simple thin foam back pad (mostly a place holder). Optionally you can buy a CE rated back protector by SafeTech for about twenty bucks (something I’d recommend).
You can mate this jacket to Tour Master pants with the short rear zipper to make a complete touring or commuting outfit. For the money and the feature list, either version (this Air jacket or the standard textile one) makes a very good purchase for everyday riding. :: Paul, 04-09-21
