Sizing Information
We checked the sizing of this style with our Fit Check mannequins Huey and Dewey. They are wearing size Medium and XL jackets respectively. These are their “usual” sizes and they fit just fine. We also checked the chest and belly of the other sizes and find them to fit OK too. Therefore, we recommend you choose the size you normally wear in men’s clothing. If anything, we find the fit to be generous, so if you are between sizes, I’d advise the smaller.
Another way to refine your size selection is to measure your chest and belly and then use our size chart (below) which lists max chest and max belly sizes for each jacket size. The measurements in the chart are a combination of the manufacturer’s size chart and also the measurements we take on the product samples. After you measure, you can choose a jacket size using the chart. You’ll want to choose a size that will accommodate both your chest and belly.
This jacket is offered in tall sizes. Tall jackets will be about 1 1/2” longer in the sleeves and torso than the “standard” size jackets. Sleeve lengths listed below are for standard sizes, so add the 1 1/2” for an estimate of the sleeve length of tall sizes. Sleeve lengths are measured from the shoulder seam to the cuff end.
Alpha Size | Max Chest Size | Max Belly | Standard Sleeve Length |
---|---|---|---|
XS | 37 | 34 | 25 |
Small | 39 | 36 | 25.5 |
Medium | 41 | 38 | 26 |
Large | 43 | 40 | 26.5 |
XL | 45 | 42 | 27 |
XXL | 49 | 46 | 27.5 |
XXXL | 52 | 49 | 27.5 |
XXXXL | 55 | 52 | 28 |

Our Two Cents
The Mariner jacket from Tourmaster is considered their top of the line road riding, all weather jacket. Additionally, Tourmaster makes a pair of Mariner pants, if you want to complete the set. Overall jacket construction is a combination of an abrasion resistant 450 denier Cordura® polyester waterproof/breathable laminate shell, reinforced 1680 denier in critical areas such as the elbow and lower arms, Durable Water Resistant (DWR) coating, and it is all put together with taped and sealed seams. This construction earned a CE Level XXXXX abrasion resistance rating. Moving on to impact protection, the Mariner jacket comes with included CE Level 2 elbow and shoulder armor, as well as a removable EVA foam back protector pad (Personally I don’t believe that a foam pad is considered back protection and would highly recommend swapping it out for a CE Level 2 rated back protector). Lastly, additional safety is provided by the high-intensity reflective accents that help enhance rider visibility in low light situations.
Jumping in to comfort and convenience, the Mariner jacket includes a 8” jacket to pants attachment zipper (pant side is included but you can also match them up to the Mariner pants), a waist belt with a hidden stretch panel for a customized fit, sliding arm adjusters, as well as strategically placed stretch panels for increased comfort and flexibility. Other comfort features include a removable zip-out full-sleeve thermal liner, Get Block® 100% waterproof zippers at the chest pockets to ensure a leakproof ride, as well as oversized chest and back ventilation for additional cooling when the weather heats up. Additional convenience features include front and rear cargo pockets, hand pockets and internal media pockets for storing items such as a cell phone. Like most Tourmaster products, the Mariner jacket comes with a 4 year workmanship and materials warranty.
Overall the Mariner jacket comes in at $289.99, which is on the higher end of cost when looking at Tourmaster’s jacket lineup, but with it being their top of the line model it makes sense, also when comparing it to other jackets with similar features, the $289.99 price is a lot of features and value for the money. I would argue that it rivals some jackets that are listed at almost twice the price. Personally I think for an adventure or touring jacket solution that the Mariner jacket is really nice looking, offers great value and has some great features (the back pocket for example is quite large). I wish that I could give it all the thumbs up and recommend it 100% but I do have one complaint. As far as I can tell, looking all over the manufacturers website and the jacket itself I can not confirm that it is CE rated, the armor is, but not the jacket. Now, I know that many non European companies simply don’t have their jackets CE rated because they don’t have to and because its an additional cost, but in this case, with it being their self proclaimed “top of the line” jacket I think they should have. Especially since I believe the materials are there for it to pass A and possibly even AA. :: Damir 7/19/24

I needed a new riding coat, and I wanted one that would provide more protection than any of my previous riding coats, and the TourMaster Mariner Jacket won out. The thing that really stands out about it is the air-flow. From front to back, from wrists to shoulders, when you want it, there is air flowing through the coat! (Read more...)
