Sizing Information

The overall fit of this jacket is very “standard”. We checked some sizes against Joe Rocket’s size chart and found the estimated chest sizes to be accurate. We also tried on a Medium and XL on our Fit Check mannequins Huey and Dewey and they look great. Therefore, I recommend you choose the size jacket you normally wear in men’s clothing. You can use the chart to choose if you know your chest size.

This is a shorter waist style jacket which has a sport look, but unlike some European jackets with similar styling, this one is cut more to the “American” build and is an easy fit for most. The max belly is about 2” less than the max chest size listed for each jacket size which should give plenty of room, but it won’t hurt to measure your belly just to make sure the jacket size you order will be big enough for both your chest and belly. For example, the size Large jacket is listed in the chart as having a max 44 chest and the max belly size is about 42”. If you are smaller through the belly you can use the side waist adjusters to snug down the fit by a substantial amount.

We find Joe Rocket jackets to be very consistent from one model to the next. For those that have owned a Joe Rocket jacket in the past, you’ll likely find a good fit knowing what size you’ve owned before.

Our Two Cents

The 6.0 version of Joe Rocket’s Phoenix jacket is just out for 2020. This is a styling update of their almost “iconic” summer mesh jacket for street and sport riders. This jacket comes complete with a full set of armor and a back protector and it also comes with a removable waterproof liner.

I think I saw my first Joe Rocket Phoenix jacket in about 2001. Before that first version came out, there was nothing else like it for wearing in hot summer weather. Fully perforated leather jackets was about as close as you could get. But for hot summer months, nothing works as well as a full mesh jacket like this.

Nearly every gear maker offers jacket in full or partial mesh designs because they’re just so darn practical and comfortable. This jacket uses a very open weave mesh material that allows the max amount of air to flow through. The shoulders and elbow areas are beefed up with solid textile fabric to make the jacket more crash worthy. Included with the jacket is a full set of armor…. elbows, shoulders and back. The shoulder/elbow armor is standard rubberized molded protectors and the back protector is a dual density foam.

The overall fit of Joe Rocket jackets (including this one) is generous for the American market. The fit works well on most body types and since it is cut generously, will work for beefier guys who might otherwise have trouble getting a comfortable fit in European brands such as REVIT and Alpinestars.

I don’t see any remarkable design changes from this 6.0 version as compared to past versions. Of course the styling is changed up somewhat to look more modern. I’d characterize the style as “street sport”, but the black color could work well for any style rider… even cruisers. One styling queue here that you don’t often see is the low banded collar. I don’t have much in the way of neck length, so I really like a low cut collar like this, especially for summer.

This jacket comes with a full sleeve waterproof liner that can be used when it is wet out, or you can snap it into place to be a windblock layer for cooler days/mornings. So with the liner in place, you’ll be able to use this jacket in the fall and spring too.

The Phoenix 6.0 is one of those “can’t go wrong” choices for a general purpose summer mesh style. :: Paul, 04-28-20
