Sizing Information

We checked the fit on these jackets with our size mannequins and we also spot checked a few different size jackets with a tape. Our advice is to choose the size you normally wear in men’s clothing. With the thermal liner installed, the jacket felt a bit snug, so if you are between sizes and/or plan to wear the jacket over heavy clothes, I’d advise you to go up one size. .

For those that want to check the size based upon their chest and belly measurements, we put together the chart below. Measure your chest and belly and pick a size that is big enough for both. Oxford publishes a standard sizes chart however we think their chart understates the size of their jackets, so we recommend you use our chart below. This jacket has a belt around the torso you use to snug the waist down to fit.

This jacket this jacket is set up to accept Oxford’s optional back protector. I don’t think there is any need to up-size more than what I already advise above. .

Our Two Cents

Oxford’s Hardy Wax jacket is a short waist military/retro style jacket with a wax cotton shell and lots of styling stitching detail. Armor is included in the shoulders and elbows and a back protector is optional.

The Hardy is a shorter waist version similar to their Bradwell jacket. The Bradwell is made of a more exotic wax cotton material where this jacket is a cotton poly blend with a coating of wax. It has a slight wax feel to the touch, but not so much that you’d think it would rub off on anything. I think it is a good compromise for those that want the retro look and feel of a wax jacket, but don’t necessarily like

Oxford says the shell of the jacket with the wax treatment is water resistant, and that is probably true, but if you get caught in any significant rain you’ll get wet for sure, so I’d suggest this jacket for mostly fair weather use. Temp-wise, I think you’ll find comfort in the “mild” to cool weather range. The jacket has a couple of zip vents in the chest to admit some air, but otherwise, it is a solid material shell, so the venting features will be limited. But for colder weather, this jacket should work pretty well because it includes a full sleeve thermal liner to add warmth when needed.

The styling of this jacket is excellent. The quilted areas have a thin padded backing which makes it look nice. And the antiqued hardware looks sharp. I’m a fan of the olive color because it has sort of a “military” patina. I’m not as much of a fan of the black color because the fabric has sort of a worn and mottled look to it. But if you want that “well worn” look, then maybe the black is for you.

The armor in the shoulders and elbows are standard issue CE level 1 rubberized, molded units, which are flexible and comfortable. The jacket has a compartment for an optional back protector. You can take the link below to order. For the low cost of the back protector, I’d recommend it.

Oxford makes some nice gear and the pricing is very reasonable. Overall, I like this jacket. :: Paul, 10-14-19
