Our Two Cents
The Scorpion EXO Cargo Air Jacket is the latest cargo jacket from Scorpion.
The jacket is mostly mesh paneling with textile at the shoulders and down the sleeves. The tag inside the jacket reads “water-resistant” but I can assure you that it is not at all water-resistant so don’t believe that. The mesh is a rhinomesh™ 600D polyester that should hold up well in a crash. The shoulders and elbows have Safe Tech® CE level 1 armor which is fairly flexible compared to the SAS-Tec armor Scorpion has historically used in their gear. There is a pocket (WITH NO PULL TAB ON THE ZIPPER CAR!) for an optional back protector if you would like to upgrade, compatible armor is listed below. There are two hook and loop adjusters at the waist to get a good tapered fit.
For storage, there are two zippered hand pockets, one zippered chest pocket, one internal napoleon pocket, and one internal hook and loop pocket which are all mesh. On the rear of the jacket, there is a large zippered pocket at the bottom which houses the stretch cargo bag. This bag packs down small and is removable with two snaps holding it in place at the bottom. When unfolded and expanded it secures to the jacket with two side snaps and five top snaps, 2 on the jacket and 3 on the flap that covers the top. When not in use this top flap uses two of the buttons to secure itself to the top of the back panel. A big call out is the storage pocket for the bag is textile, so when you are using the bag it will function as a big air scoop on your back.
As a mesh jacket, the EXO Cargo Air should serve you well. If you need a backpack, we would suggest buying a backpack. The functionality of this just doesn’t work well. The items are stored too low on the back to be comfortable or practical. We still aren’t sure what problem Scorpion is trying to solve with these backpack jackets but they haven’t perfected it yet. :: Mike, 2-22-2022
