Sizing Information
We measured a selection of these jackets and also tried them on our Fit Check mannequins Huey and Dewey to see how they fit (Huey is in a Euro 52 and Dewey is in a 56) and they both look great. The overall fit is consistent with other European sized jacket we sell such as Alpinestars and REVIT.
This product is sold in European sizes. Generally speaking, the US chest size in inches is equivalent to roughly 10 points less than the European jacket size. Example: a 56 Euro jacket is similar to a size 46/XL men’s US size. We found this jacket to run just a touch smaller than this general rule. The size 56 jacket measures out to about 45” max chest. To choose a size in this jacket, I’d suggest you measure yourself with a tape and get your chest size and belly size, then use the size chart to pick the smallest size jacket that will be big enough for both your chest and belly using the chart below. Approximate US alpha sizes are also listed in the chart so you can check if the jacket size you choose is the same alpha size as you normally wear in men’s clothing.
Sizing tips for upgrading armor: If you plan to add a back protector add 1” to your measured chest/belly size before using the size chart.
This jacket is a short waist sport or retro styled jacket. Its cut is more casual than Dainese sport or race jackets so the “drop” from chest to belly is about 3”. Side waist snaps are included so you can slim down the fit of the waist if necessary. Moving both side snaps to the more snug position will reduce the fit of the waist/belly by about 3” overall.

Our Two Cents
The Dainese San Diego leather jacket is a good looking, casual leather jacket for street/sport/retro riders. The San Diego is offered in two versions… a solid leather or a partially perforated version. Take the link below to view the other version. Shoulder and elbow armor are included along with a full sleeve thermal liner.
I’ll tell you about both versions of the San Diego jacket since the overall feature package of both is very similar. Moderate to hot weather is the target season for the standard (non-perforated) San Diego. With the solid leather jacket, you’ll be most comfortable in mild weather, but the perforated version is aimed at warm to hot weather temps because of the micro perforated leather used both in the front and rear of the jacket (look closely at the photos and you’ll see the perforation pattern). While neither jacket is equipped with a thermal liner for cold weather, the solid leather version jacket could work well for mild to colder weather if you use your own layering garments underneath for insulation. (Tip: If you like this style, but plan on mild to cold weather use, take a look at the Dainese Saint Louis jacket. It features a solid leather shell and is supplied with a full sleeve thermal liner.)
Notice the two-texture leather styling. They’ve used a shiny finish leather in the underarm area and on the sides of the torso, and elsewhere they use a matte finish leather. Blocks of white leather on the biceps give this jacket just a bit of a retro vibe too. I think the overall look is sharp.
The armor package includes Dainese Pro Armor which is a rubberized and molded armor with a honeycomb pattern. It is very comfortable and it is removable too in case you decide to enjoy this jacket off the bike. A zippered pocket is built into the jacket’s liner for the addition of a back protector. Take the link below to add the Pro Armor back protector which closely resembles the design of the shoulder and elbow armor.
For our studio pics, we used one perf jacket and one non-perf jacket so you could see the two side-by-side. Be sure you are on the correct product page (standard solid or perforated) when you order. Take the link below to view the other version. :: Paul, 05-12-21
