Sizing Information
This product is sold in European sizes. We measured a selection of these jackets and also tried them on our Fit Check mannequins. The overall sizing of the jackets is pretty much what we expected as compared to other Alpinestars jackets. Normally we find the max chest of Alpinestars jackets to be about 10 points smaller than the Euro size, but this one seems to be cut just a touch smaller… right about 11 points smaller, so a size 56 Euro has a max chest of a bout 45”. To choose a size, I’d suggest you measure yourself with a tape and get your chest size, and if you have a bit of a belly you can also check your max belly. If you know your suit coat size, that works too. Then you can use the size chart to pick the smallest size jacket that will be big enough for both your chest and belly using the chart below.
This jacket is more of a “street” style rather than a sport style, so the cut is not as tapered from chest to waist as the typical Alpinestars leather jacket. The max belly will be right about 1” less than the max chest. So most people won’t have a problem with the belly size. The waist/belly area of the jacket is not adjustable, so for those with a very trim waist as compared to their chest may not like the fit. People with that body type should eat more… no just kidding, but seriously, this might not be the best cut jacket for those with the trim flat belly.
Euro Size | Max Chest Size (inches) | Max Belly Size (inches) |
---|---|---|
48 | 37 | 36 |
50 | 39 | 38 |
52 | 41 | 40 |
54 | 43 | 42 |
56 | 45 | 42 |
58 | 47 | 45 |
60 | 49 | 47 |
Sizing advice for adding option armor: Adding chest or back armor to this jacket will change the fit. To account for that, I’d advise you to add one inch to your chest measurement if you plan to add a back protector. Add another inch if you want to add the chest protectors.
Our Two Cents
The Alpinestars Dyno leather jacket is a heritage styled jacket that would look great on a cruiser, cafe racer or vintage style bike. Coming in with a pretty mild style in all black or the slightly bold version with a red and white accent stripe the Dyno jacket looks good and fits the part. This jacket features a regular fit (keep in mind it is still European so its a bit more sport than regular fit vs “American Regular Fit” jackets) and is versatile enough to wear on and off the bike. Overall construction is a dip dyed bovine leather that is 1.0 to 1.2 mm thick which Alpinestars claims is the optimum blend of light weight, thinness, suppleness and abrasion resistance, this statement I disagree with as this jacket to me feels stiffer than multiple REV’IT! and Alpinestars jackets that I have worn that were CE Level 2 rated while the Dyno jacket is only CE Level A rated (to me a leather jacket not being AA rated is disappointing). Personally I can’t justify a jacket that feels heavier and stiffer but has less abrasion resistance all for a similar price as the AA jackets. Another bit to note is that this jacket is Tech-Air® 3 Ready.
Jumping over to protection, this jacket does feature a back protector pocket, but you do have to buy the back protector separately as well as a divided chest protector pocket, again the protector itself is sold seperately, but the shoulder and elbow armor is included and it is Alpinestars’ Nucleon Flex Plus CE Level 1 armor. Other notable features include a detachable thermal vest with 80g insulation at the front for effective cold weather performance (keep in mind the “at the front” part as the back of the vest is a mesh liner, so it is not a effective at keeping you warm as a normal thermal liner would be. Other features to note are the perforated leather collar, breathing holes at the inner/under arm areas, stretch piping on the should blades, easy access zippers at the wrists as well as button adjustors at the waist. Also included on the inside are jeans loop hooks and only one inner pocket, but on the bright side it is waterproof. Lastly I do want to point out that you get pockets on the outside in the front but they are double pockets, meaning that the top pocket features a single button closure and then right underneath it there is another pocket that features a zipper closure. I am assuming that the zipper pocket would be for holding items securely while the top button pocket is for keeping your hands warm on cold days.
Overall I have a few complaints about this jacket, I mean overall it looks good, though I am not a huge fan of the little upside down heart looking logo that is colored after the Italian flag, but outside of looking good I feel like both Alpinestars and REV’IT! Offer more comfortable, better looking and more protective jackets for a similar price. I would say if you like how this jacket looks, feels and fits you then great, go for it, it is not by any means a bad jacket, but personally I would pass and go for some of the AA rated leather jacket options. :: Damir 6/27/24
