I needed a new riding coat, and I wanted one that would provide more protection than any of my previous riding coats, and the TourMaster Mariner Jacket won out. The thing that really stands out about it is the air-flow. From front to back, from wrists to shoulders, when you want it, there is air flowing through the coat! I was out riding last year and the afternoon temperature soared to 99°, but I never felt over-heated in the coat, even when stopped at traffic lights or creeping along in heavy traffic through a city or town, fortunately, those were few and far between. There's a ton of storage space in this coat, including the internal cellphone pocket, and the hi-viz yellow accents make me, (I keep telling myself), more visible than if I were wearing one of my old, black riding jackets. I really love this coat but I do have a few minor gripes. Gripe #1: The tabs on the pockets are too small. Trying to open a pocket flap while wearing gloves is almost impossible. The hook-and-loop used is really strong, and trying to grip those little flaps while wearing gloves in order to access a pocket can be maddening. Gripe #2: The zipper handles could be larger, too. While wearing gloves, those can be gripped a bit more easily, but they can also be difficult to keep in your fingers when trying to open a vent or open the bottom of the jacket using the main zipper. Gripe #3: Why does this waterproof coat not have a folding hood in the collar? Rain down the back of one's neck, and back, is not a pleasant sensation when riding so it was something of a surprise to find that the coat is not equipped with a hood. Are ya listening, TourMaster? Other than that, the coat is definitely generous in size. My original order, according to the Motorcycle Gear sizing chart, was for a XXXL, though I may have made the mistake of ordering the 'Tall' version. The extra sleeve length was fine, but the extra height of the coat could feel unwieldy at times. This is where that reversing main zipper came in very handy. Since then, however, I have lost a lot of weight and that XXXL is now like wearing a tent, and I had to buy a replacement in a size Large. The new coat fits beautifully; there's still a little bit of extra room around the belly, but the overall fit is far better, and I expect the air-flow to be just as good as the XXXL. Neither coat has been tried in the rain yet, so I'm going to take it on faith that the waterproofing is solid, though I'll be wearing an actual rain coat with a hood if the weather gets bad. The TourMaster Mariner riding coat is a solid purchase and I'm glad, in general, that I bought it, and have recommended it to others who have asked about it.
