I'm a gear junkie and I have the top of the line full face helmets from all the major players but this is my first time trying a flip up helmet. My concerns had always been weight, noise, and feeling cheap but with MotorcycleGear.com's sale price on this Shoei I decided to take a chance. This helmet feels top quality, the chin bar locks up solid and sturdy yet easily lifts when you stop at a light or your destination. The weight is very close to my Shoei X12 and well balanced (with chin bar down), it does get some additional wind noise from the sides due to chin bar mount but it is not terrible and I wear earplugs anytime I ride with any helmet. Fit was perfect and as always Shoei makes a quality product. I quickly learned to appreciate flipping up the front to run into stores and places that are freaked out by people with covered faces. It also makes grabbing a snack or a drink an easy task. I plan to give it a full test on a Euro trip this summer where reading a map and asking directions has always been a hassle in a full face helmet.
