Our Two Cents
The RPHA 1N helmet from HJC is their flagship model that was introduced in 2022 and is considered a race helmet as it is FIM safety homologation, DOT, and ECE 22.06 Approved (basically meeting or exceeding all of the commonly used and accepted helmet standards). In true flagship, race helmet fashion, the 1N is wind tunnel tested, comes with an optional extended rear spoiler (which is transparent and attached to the bottom of the existing spoiler, and is used to improve stability at higher speeds by bridging the gap between the race suit hump and the back of the helmet, additionally it has the added benefit of simply looking cool!). Overall construction is a PIM+ shell that features reinforcement materials such as carbon and a carbon-glass hybrid fabric which provide enhanced shock-resistant performance, superior comfort as well as high weight. Speaking of light weight, the RPHA 1N is lighter than the RPHA 11 pro.
Moving to the interior, HJC utilizes an Advanced Channeling Ventilation System to keep things cool, it features five intake vents and four exhaust vents (2 on the chin bar and 2 in the rear), as well as a Silvercool interior that has an advanced anti-bacterial fabric that provides enhanced moisture-wicking and quick drying abilities. The interior of the helmet is fully removable and washable, additionally the cheek pads are interchangeable throughout the sizes which allows for a custom fit, and the cheek pads feature an emergency quick release pull tab system. Also important to note for those who wear glasses, the interior is eyeglass friendly.
Lets talk sizes, the RPHA 1N comes in sizes XXS to 2XL with four shell sizes that break down as follows, shell AA covers XXS to XS, shell A covers Small to Medium, shell B covers Large by itself, and Shell C covers XL to 2XL. Other features to note are the HJ-35 Pinlock® ready shield that comes with a Pinlock® lens included (with a 3.5mm thickness) and tool-less operation with the Tool-less shield ratchet system. Also included in the box are a chin curtain, breath deflector, and shield tear-offs. The RPHA 1N is hydration system friendly (featuring a hose attachment) and comes with a 5-year warranty.
Overall it is clear the the HJC RPHA 1N is a top tier racing helmet that competes directly with other brands top models (especially FIM approved ones) and that though you are paying top price for it, you are getting the top tier features and benefits in exchange which justifies the price. The RPHA 1N comes in many different color options with solids, mild graphics and even wild, race based graphics with prices ranging from $699 to north of $1,000 depending on the version. If you are looking for a race helmet, especially one that is FIM homologated I would recommend trying on a HJC RPHA 1N. :: Damir 8/15/24
