Our Two Cents
The F71 is a sport/sport touring full face helmet from HJC, and is the direct replacement for their F70 helmet. The F71 comes in sizes from XS to 2XL, and those sizes are covered by 3 shell/liner sizes. Shell A will cover XS&S, Shell B M&L, and Shell C XL&2XL. Overall construction is an advanced fiberglass composite with interchangeable cheek pads (interchangeable through the shell sizes and cheek pads are glasses friendly). The F71 has a HJ-38 Pinlock prepared clear shield, the Pinlock lens is included, and it comes with a HJ-V12 internal sunshield. The HJ-V12 internal sunshield features a Dynamic Multi-Step setup that allows it to be in multiple positions such as default, 5mm closer to the breath deflector and 10mm closer to the breath deflector. This is controlled with the switch at the neckline of the left side of the helmet, one direction pivots the sunshield up and out of your vision while the other lowers the visor to near the breath deflector. When you lower the visor, there is tension at each position. Moving past the first position the sun shield kicks out a bit and gets 5mm closer to the breath deflector. The next adjustment is 10mm closer. This helmet is DOT approved.
Additional features include emergency quick release cheek pad release tabs, a 2 way ratchet pivot system, a 3 year warranty, and Smart HJC 2nd Gen compatibility (powered by Sena). In comparison to the F70, the F71 has a 33% improvement in the front edge spoiler, a 158% improvement in rear spoiler aerodynamics, a more aggressive design with more pronounced upper and rear vents, as well as more advanced airflow that was developed in HJC’s wind tunnel.
Overall the HJC F71 is a solid helmet with some solid features at its price point in the mid $300s. Personally I think that the F71 has one of the biggest and most customizable (position wise) sun visors out of all the helmets that we sell. In trying the F71 on it felt comfortable, not overly heavy and it does come in a good variety of both solid colors as well as graphic versions. If you are looking at a helmet in the mid $300 range it is worth checking out, especially if you find built in sun protection important. :: Damir 8/3/24
