These boots have an issue on the tongue where the buckle will rub against the synthetic coating. The material used in that area of the boot looks good until the buckle begins to run against it. The friction causes the synthetic coating to begin to peel, crack, and flake. It does not make the boot any less waterproof as the membrane is inside the boot

Sizing Information

We found this shoe to be sized correctly for length, so choose the size you normally wear in a men’s shoe. The width is considered “D” or “normal”. The toe box is slightly narrow. If you are between sizes, I’d recommend choosing the larger.

The Tourmaster Break Trail Waterproof Boots are a new style for fall 2022. They are part of the new Horizon line from Tourmaster which is geared towards adventure touring and dual-sport riders.

The Break Trail has a dual buckle closure that has adjustable straps. You tighten the strap by pushing it into the leather strap that comes around the boot, to loosen you have to kind of “walk out” the strap one step/tooth at a time. With the adjustability and the accordion stretch panel at the cuff of the boot where it closes with a hook and loop flap, they should fit some fairly wide calves. I will call out here again that the toe box was a little narrow so if you have a wider foot or like some room to move your toes around in the boot you might want to go up a half size. If you have to go up a full size then you can always put an insole in to take up some of that room. The shift pad and outer toe have a unique almost suede look to them that really pops with the rest of the boot.

The boots have all the protection you would expect from a riding boot: Ankle protection, heel cup, toe cap, and a nylon anti-twist sole. The sole does seem pretty flexible in the middle, but it is tough to twist so it looks like it will do the job.

With the waterproof membrane and breathable lining, these Break Trail boots should work in warm to cold weather in wet and dry conditions. If it gets too hot out you may be looking for a boot with some mesh panels on it so you can get some airflow, but for most riders, these will work for 3-4 seasons. :: Mike, 12-16-21
