Sizing Information
We find TCX boots to be very consistent in fit from one model to the next. We checked this boot and it too is consistent with other models. To choose a size, please click here to see the TCX size chart. The general width of TCX is “medium” or D to E. To compare to other brands you may have experience with, I’d say the overall fit is somewhere between a Sidi boot which is generally a bit more narrow and an Alpinestars boot which has a more generous width.
Our Two Cents
The TCX Explorer.4 GTX Boots are the latest generation of their popular Explorer boots.
The Explorer line goes way back to 2012 and was a variation on the old Oxtar Matrix boots if anyone is keeping score. The Explorer takes the waterproofing to the max with a Gore-Tex membrane and overlays that with a microfiber and textile upper that allows air to reach the membrane so it can perform in any condition. The Gore-Tex membrane allows any water that does get in or is generated by you sweating, to escape while keeping water out of the boot and allowing your foot to breathe. The Ortholite insole is very comfortable and helps these boots perform on and off the bike. The outsole has grip areas, but it is definitely intended for motorcycle use and wouldn’t do well on a long walk or on slick surfaces.
This generation has a hook and loop closure flap over the medial zipper. Behind that zipper is a waterproof gaiter. The boots have reinforcements in all the key areas: toe box, heel, shin, and ankles. There is also a TPU reinforcement on top of the toe box to reduce wear from the shifter. On the back of the boots are two reflective inserts to help you stay visible in low light conditions.
The TCX Explorer.4 GTX boots will keep you dry and warm, while also allowing your foot to breathe. They should perform well in wet or dry conditions in warm to cold temperatures. :: Mike, 02-24-2022
