My impression was that this boot is a “D” or medium width and the length is generally true to the stated size. This style has a less boxy toe than usually seen in Icon boots. The boot has a BOA® lacing system, pop the dial out to release, push in to lock and then twist to tighten.
Our Two Cents
The Icon Patrol 3 WP Boots are an update on their popular Patrol boot family which goes all the way back to the early days of Icon.
This version is slightly shorter than the previous iterations but does bring features and styling from its pedigree. Like before, the boots are fully waterproof, this time with a new eVent® waterproof lining that is both waterproof and breathable. A key carryover from the Patrol 2 is the BOA® lacing system. The BOA® system makes it a breeze to loosen or tighten the boots even when wearing gloves, pop the dial out to release the laces, and when you’re ready to tighten just push the dial back in to lock it and then twist to tighten the laces to your comfort level. We love this system, it gives you the adjustability of a traditional lace system with one hand adjustment and without worrying about the laces coming loose and getting hung up on your peg or anything else.
The Patrol 3 is made from an interesting mix of engineered textile and 1000 denier polyester with TECHTUFF® leather. The engineered textile and polyester are on the tongue and sides of the boot and looks like it will allow air to flow across the eVent® membrane which will keep you cool in warmer weather. Most of the upper is TECHTUFF® leather that offers more abrasion resistance than normal leather and is also coated for extra waterproofing. The top of the toe box, just under the laces, has a ribbed reinforcement panel for grip on the shifter. The ankles are reinforced with D3O® inserts and the sole is moderately stiff with increased flexibility around the ball of the foot. At the rear of the boot, there is a reflective strip for low light visibility.
The Icon Patrol 3 Waterproof Boots are a good option for the commuter or cruiser rider that wants waterproofing in a casual looking boot. The closure system is the easiest there is to use in the motorcycle world and the materials and looks here are also unique. The eVent® membrane will keep you dry as long as you keep water out of the tops of the boot and the engineered textile sections will allow air to flow across that membrane keeping you cool on warmer days.
