Sizing Information
We measured and tried on a selection of these pants and the main conclusion was that the pants run a bit small in the waist as compared to REV’IT’s published sizing chart. The inseams however are very well represented in their chart.
To help in choosing a size, we’ve developed a chart that shows each pant size and REV’IT’s published size estimate of waist alongside our own estimate of size. We’d advise you to choose a pant size based upon OUR sizing estimates.
As you can see in the chart, the pants are available in regular, short and tall inseam sizes, so choose the inseam you normally wear in slacks or jeans. The pants also have adjustability of the armor height (independent of inseam length) which can be accessed by pulling each leg inside out. Velcro allows you set the armor in different spots and you can check how the armor feels on your knee when you are sitting on the bike and decide which position it seems best. Neat!
Also, the pants have a set of Velcro waist adjusters at the waist to help you fine tune the fit. We indicate a 2” range in our chart which was about the amount we judged the adjustment range to be.
Pant Size | REV’IT Estimate | Our Estimate | Inseam Reg | Inseam Short | Inseam Tall |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
46 | 30-32 | 29-31 | 30 | - | - |
48 | 33-34 | 30-32 | 31 | - | 33 |
50 | 34-35 | 32-34 | 31 | 30 | 34 |
52 | 36-37 | 33-35 | 32 | 30 | 34 |
54 | 38-40 | 35-37 | 32 | 30 | 35 |
56 | 40-42 | 37-39 | 32 | 31 | - |
58 | 42-43 | 38-40 | 33 | - | - |
60 | 44-46 | 41-43 | 33 | - | - |
Measurement tip: You’ll want to measure yourself fairly high up the waist because protective style pants like this are cut to ride higher on your waist than a lot of modern jean styles (so relying just upon the size jeans you buy might result in motorcycle pants that are too small). Right below the navel is about the right height on the waist for measurement. For a pant leg style like this that goes over the boots, you can typically choose an inseam based upon what you normally wear in jeans or slacks.
Our Two Cents
Like the name implies, the Ignition 4 Pants from REV’IT! Are a matching set to the Ignition 4 jacket and follow many of the same design and style cues. The Ignition 4 pants are designed, like the jacket to be a three season or even four season pant, depending on where you live and offer great levels of adjustability when it comes to climate/weather regulation. Overall the Ignition 4 pants utilize premium-grade materials and have achieved a CE Level AA abrasion resistance rating. Said materials are Cowhide, PWR shell mesh, PWR shell stretch as well as reflective fabric on the back and front of the pants.
Lets talk protection, aside from the AA abrasion rating, the Ignition 4 pants also offer impact protection, this is delivered by the included SEEFLEX CE-level 2 Knee Protectors (which are adjustable), SEESMART CE-level 1 Hip Protectors, safety seams and Coccyx protection. Additional features include a mesh liner that features polyamide stretch to add additional comfort, and speaking of comfort, you do get stretch at the crotch, knees, waist, and inside of the legs and knees. The Ignition 4 pants also come with calf zippers, both a long and short connection zippers, a b-lock button closure at the front and a re prepared for REV’IT!’s Strapped suspenders. Further adjustability can be found with the strap at the waist, as well as with the following climate regulation adjustments such as ventilation panels on the lower and upper legs and a removable waterproof hydratex lite liner.
Overall it is clear that the Ignition 4 pants have evolved over time to include the learnings and improvements made by its predecessors. My one point of concern with this pants is that REV’IT! Claims that they are a regular fit, not sure here, to may be a bit more towards the slim side, and take note of our sizing check above as there is a bit of a caution with the REV’IT! Size chart.
