Sizing Information
We measured and tried on a selection of these pants and developed the table below to help you choose a size that is right for you. REVIT publishes a sizing chart but strangely they offer hip measurements rather than waist measurements, and in the US, waist measurements are the norm. Please note, the sizes listed in the chart are NOT “vanity” sized like typical jeans sold in the US (meaning jeans that measure out larger than the stated size), so buying based on a jean size maybe result in a REVIT pant choice that is too small. We recommend you either measure your waist or measure pants you already own (use the instructions below for help in measuring).
These pants are available in regular, short and tall inseam sizes, so we’ve included inseam lengths in the chart as well. The pants have adjustability of the armor height (independent of inseam length). Velcro tabs in the armor pockets allows you to set the armor at different heights in the pant leg. You can check how the armor feels on your knee when you are sitting on the bike and decide which position seems best. Neat!
Also, the pants have an adjustable strap arrangement at the waist to help you fine tune the fit. We are showing a three inch range which was about what the adjusters seemed to do.
Pant Size | Waist Estimate | Inseam Reg | Inseam Short | Inseam Tall |
---|---|---|---|---|
Small | 29-31 | 31.5 | - | - |
Med | 31-34 | 32.5 | 31 | 34.5 |
Large | 33-36 | 33 | 31.5 | 35 |
XL | 35-38 | 33.5 | 32 | 35.5 |
XXL | 38-41 | 33.5 | 32 | 35.5 |
XXXL | 41-44 | 34 | 32 | - |
XXXXL | 43-46 | 34 | - | - |
Measurement tips: You’ll want to measure yourself fairly high up the waist because protective style pants like this are cut to ride higher on your waist than a lot of modern jean styles. Just below the navel is about the right height on the waist for measurement.
Use as overpants: These pants will likely be used as both overpants over street clothes or as pants over underwear or shorts because many riders will be wearing these in the heat of summer. Since the waist of these pants is relatively high (as discussed above) the waist will ride above the waist line of normal jeans and therefore, I don’t think you will want to up-size with the idea of using them as overpants. But, I would advise that if you are pushing the upper limit of a size or you are between sizes, to choose the larger.
Our Two Cents
The Alpinus GTX pants from REV’IT! are a waterproof overppant for commuting and touring, that are designed to be worn over a regular pair of pants or even motorcycle riding jeans. Overall construction is a combination of 3L GORE-TEX nylon 400D fabric and PWR Shell stretch. This combination achieved a CE Level AA rating. Additional protection can be found in the included SEEFLEX CE-level 2 Knee Protectors, the SEESMART CE-level 1 Hip Protectors, as well as the laminated reflection at the calves that aids in low light visibility.
From a comfort and convenience standpoint, the Alpinus GTX Pants feature an adjustment strap at the waist and tab at the ankle, a waterproof stash pocket on the upper leg as well as a soft spacer mesh liner for additional comfort. Overall fit is considered regular, and as a good overpant should, the Alpinus GTX Pants feature an Easy-entrance zipper at the inner leg as well as an Easy-entrance protector pocket (this makes removing the armor much easier). Additional features include a short connection zipper, a long connection zipper, a grip panel at the seat, as well as a B-lock button closure at the front. The Alpinus GTX Pants are also prepared for Strapper suspenders.
Coming in at $599.99 the Alpinus GTX Over Pants are quite the investment, and Ill be honest, when I first glanced at them I wasn’t sure that they were worth more than double what the Berlin H2O pants from REVIT! Cost. But then as I started to look at the closely and direct them I realized that you do get what you pay for. Versus the Berlin, you get Level 2 armor vs Level 1, AA abrasion resistance vs A and most importantly, overall fit, finish, comfort and materials are greatly improved justifying the cost difference. The Alpinus GTX pants are one of the lightest and thinest waterproof level AA pants that I have ever tried on, truly impressive. If you have the room in your budget, I think you will appreciate the features and upgrades that the Alpinus GTX pants provide. :: Damir 7/19/24
