Sizing Information

I measured a selection of these pants and found the waist size of the pants to measure out consistently at 2” larger than the stated size. Most men’s jeans will be sized this way these days…. it’s called vanity sizing. We recommend you measure your waist or the waistband of your favorite jeans to see what size pants you need. The waist sizes for each pant size can be adjusted down by 2 to 3 inches with the side waist adjusters.

Inseam on the regular size pants is about 34” and inseam on the tall size pants is about 36”.

Here is a chart I put together to show you how each pant size measures out so you can select the size based upon what you come up with when you measure yourself.

Pant Size Max Waist Size Inseam Regular Inseam Tall
30 32 34 -
32 34 34 36
34 36 34 36
36 38 34 36
38 40 34 36
40 42 34 -
42 44 34 -

Our Two Cents

Klim’s Carlsbad pants share most of the features found on their other pants. The styling is made to match the Carlsbad jacket for the complete outfit for off road/adventure riding. These pants are plenty sturdy enough with exceptionally strong feeling materials… particularly the rip-stop materials, but the pants are just a bit lighter weight than other models such as the Latitude.

The pants are a solid textile shell that is waterproofed with the best… Gore-Tex, and are guaranteed to keep you dry. They do have some large zip vents on the side of each thigh and exhaust vents in the rear. These close with waterproof zippers, and when open, will admit air directly through the thigh area, which should give some comfort in warm weather. Klim doesn’t include underlayers with their basic gear, but rather they encourage you to use your own layering depending upon the weather. These pants also have a couple handy waterproof thigh pockets to store your stuff. Check our close up pictures to see those individual features.

The pant leg design of these pants is inspired by dual sport riding… the leg opening is large at the bottom to accommodate just about any boot but the cuff has snaps so you can make the pant leg smaller at the end if you like. The insides of the legs are lined with a second layer of heavy Cordura material so buckles won’t wear on the insides of the pant leg. And the area of the lower leg that rests toward the bike is leather. The leather works to help prevent melting from hot pipes and also give some “grip” for those wrangling a bike off the road.

The waist of the pants is pretty standard construction… a snap closure with flap over a heavy zipper and with two side adjustment sliders on the waist. The back of the waistband is slightly stretchy to keep tension.

The pants come with a full set of D3O armor in the hips and knees. The knee armor installation is great…. the armor is inside a pocket that is quite a bit larger than the armor, and inside the pockets there are patches of Velcro that engage the armor so that you can position it up or down, or side to side, so that it fits in the right spot when you are mounted. And the Velcro arrangement works very well… better than most other schemes I’ve seen. One bit of armor I see on these pants not found on the others we carry is the tail bone protector. It’s a similar memory foam material as the D3O in the hips and knees.

Reflective materials are provided as well. Take a look at those in our photo gallery “night shots”.

Although these pants will make the perfect outfit along with the Carlsbad jacket, they’d work well with any jacket you may own. You could even get the Klim suspenders in lieu of zipping to the Klim jackets. Very nice, high quality pants! :: Paul, 05-15-17
