Sizing Information

We measured a sampling of these jeans of different waist sizes and lengths and find they are much like other jeans you’d buy these days. They are just a bit “vainity” sized in the waist and pretty true in the length. Across the size run, the actual measured waist was just a bit larger than the stated waist size (about 1” in the smaller sizes and about 2” in the bigger sizes which is typical vanity sizing). And of course these are denim and may shrink just a tad too. The jeans have SeeSmart hip protectors installed. The hip armor is quite thin and flexible so I don’t think they’ll make a difference in the size choice of jeans if you choose to wear them. So my overall advice would be to buy the waist size you normally wear in jeans; you’ll likely find a fit. If you aren’t sure whether your jeans are vanity sized like I’m describing, then either measure your waist where your normal jeans ride or measure your favorite pair of jeans to verify. You’ll probably find that you measure out a bit bigger than your normal jeans size and also the waist of your favorite jeans measures out an inch or two bigger than their stated size. If so, you will be on track following my advice.

The inseam lengths measured out about right as compared to the stated size, BUT there are a couple considerations here… first, these jeans come standard with knee armor and the knees are reinforced with a layer of an abrasion resistant material. Those two features add a bit of thickness and when you sit, that means the inseam gets a bit shorter than you might expect. You’ll also want to decide if you want to roll your jeans up at the cuff or not. Many people do, so add some inseam if you want to do that. Also, there is a reflective strip on the inside seam at the bottom that only shows when the ends are rolled. So with those considerations in mind I’d recommend you buy one size longer than you normally wear. If between sizes, choose the longer.

Our Two Cents

The REV’IT! Reed SF jeans are a slim fit riding jean that will pair well with just about any jacket for urban and commuter riders.

The Reed SF jeans are made from a 16 oz. Cordura® denim that offers quite a bit of 4-way stretch. The SF = Slim fit style of this pant means the stretch helps get and easy, comfortable fit that conforms to the legs. The pants also taper a bit as you go down the leg. Externally the jeans have the appearance of a typical designer jean with two hand pockets and two hip pockets and a fifth pocket in the right hand pocket for change or keys. One fashion jean bullet point we want to point out here, these jeans have a full button fly, so instead of one button and a zipper you get one main button and 3 smaller buttons through the fly. They’ll break in but out of the box these are not the easiest things to fasten. There is nothing to give away the protection that lies beneath.

The protection in the jeans comes from that Cordura® denim with safety seams that provide good abrasion resistance for slides. This denim is overlaid with PWR shield material in the seat and in the rise of the pants down to the knees for even more abrasion resistance and protection. The pants also use REV’IT!’s ultra thin and flexible SEESMART™ RV36 CE level 1 armor on knee and the SEESMART™ RV33 CE-level 1 armor at the hip. At the cuff there is a reflective strip on the interior of each leg that is visible if you turn the cuff up and provides a bright reflection to other motorists. The jeans also have belt loops so you can easily integrate the REV’IT! Safeway belts (see related products below) for pairing with your favorite REV’IT! riding jacket. All this protection comes together to give the Reed SF jeans a AAA CE rating, which is a level that is normally only achieved in high end racing leathers! You can read more about CE ratings here. These jeans are the AAA slim fit option, for a loose fit AAA option check out the REV’IT! Newmont LF jeans (see related products below).

The REV’IT! Reed SF jeans are a good choice for urban and commuter riders that are looking for a protective jean that they can wear comfortably all day. Just remember they are slightly vanity sized with a slim fit through the legs and size appropriately! :: Mike, 08/15/2022
