Sizing Information
We measured a sampling of these jeans of different waist sizes and lengths and find they are much like other jeans you’d buy these days. They are just a bit “vanity” sized in the waist and pretty true in the length. Across the size run, the actual measured waist was just a bit larger than the stated waist size (about 1” in the smaller sizes and about 2” in the bigger sizes which is typical vanity sizing). And of course, these are denim and may shrink just a tad too. The jeans have SeeSmart hip protectors installed. The hip armor is quite thin and flexible so I don’t think they’ll make a difference in the size choice of jeans if you choose to wear them. So my overall advice would be to buy the waist size you normally wear in jeans; you’ll likely find a fit. If you aren’t sure whether your jeans are vanity sized like I’m describing, then either measure your waist where your normal jeans ride or measure your favorite pair of jeans to verify. You’ll probably find that you measure out a bit bigger than your normal jeans size and also the waist of your favorite jeans measures out an inch or two bigger than their stated size. If so, you will be on track following my advice.
The inseam lengths measured out about right as compared to the stated size, BUT there are a couple of considerations here… first, these jeans come standard with knee armor and the knees are reinforced with a layer of an abrasion resistant material. Those two features add a bit of thickness and when you sit, that means the inseam gets a bit shorter than you might expect. You’ll also want to decide if you want to roll your jeans up at the cuff or not. Many people do, so add some inseam if you want to do that. Also, there is a reflective strip on the inside seam at the bottom that only shows when the ends are rolled. So with those considerations in mind I’d recommend you buy one size longer than you normally wear. If between sizes, choose the longer.
Our Two Cents
The Ortes TF Jeans from REV’IT! feature a tapered fit in a classic everyday 5 pocket jean design. The Ortes jeans are offered in both a medium kind of faded gray color as well as a more simple dark blue. The beauty of these jeans is that they very much look like normal jeans, and even with armor, which by the way is SEESMART CE-Level 1 at both the knees and hips, its hard for the untrained eye to notice that they are motorcycle jeans. This is quite impressive as these jeans feature a 15.5 OZ CORDURA® Construction as well as safety seams and triple needle stitching combine with the above mentioned armor, this combination resulted in a CE AA rating. Again, really impressive for a pair of jeans that the untrained eye would consider to be normal.
Some additional features to note are that the Ortes jeans, like most jeans from REV’IT!, feature a reflective strip on the inside of the pant leg that can be seen when the pant leg is rolled up. The included knee armor is adjustable to ensure a good fit. Additionally to aid the 15.5 OZ CORDURA® Construction with comfort the denim material features both COOLMAX® & THERMOLITE® elements. For those not familiar with THERMOLITE®, it is a lightweight insulation that helps keep riders warm on cooler days as it is comprised of hollow fibers that trap air for better warmth retention, this material also dries 50% faster than cotton and ensures rapid moisture evacuation. It feels quite comfortable on the skin. On the flip side the COOLMAX® material helps keep you cool on the warm days really allowing these jeans to be used in multi-season riding. Another way to add comfort and functionality with these jeans is to pair the featured belt loops with REV’IT!’s line of Safeway belts to keep these jeans connected to your favorite REV’IT! Jacket.
A few things to note with these jeans is that they are a tapered fit, this means that basically from the knee down they are more or less a skinny jean but above the knee they have more room. I for example like the look of skinny jeans but can’t quite fit in them because of larger thighs and upper legs, this is where a tapered fit comes in handy allowing for additional room up top while hugging the leg under the knee. Another item to note is that the Ortes TF Jeans feature a button fly front closure, for some people that is a deal breaker, so we wanted to make sure to point that out.
Overall this is a great pair of jeans that will keep you well protected while still looking casual and like you are wearing a normal pair of jeans off of the bike. In trying these jeans on they were not noticeably bulkier or heavier feeling than a normal pair of jeans, yes of course they were, they are protective after all, but not to the point where it was super noticeable in walking and standing around in them. REV’IT! is known for taking the safety of their jeans very seriously so if you are looking for a pair of riding jeans that is good looking but will still keep you safe the Ortes TF jeans are a great place to start. :: Damir 3-13-24
