REV'IT! Tornado 4 H2O Pant

Multi-season functionality lies at the heart of the Tornado 4 H2O pants: a perfect complement to the Tornado 4 H2O jacket. A tried and tested staple in our lineup, it offers the essentials tour riders are looking for when hitting the road: ventilation, waterproofing, and a high level of protection, wrapped into a smart and adventure-ready design.

Customized for your rides Did the temperatures heat up from the time you started your ride? No problem, drop the detachable thermal and waterproof liner and let the fully ventilated mesh leg and back of leg panels allow the air flow directly toward your body. Is it cold or did it start to rain? That happens! Reattach the thermal and 2L hydratex waterproof liner for a more comfortable ride.

Functionality in all its forms Laminated reflection at the calves and upper legs allows you to be better seen when riding in lower light conditions, the incorporated grip panel at the seat helps to prevent you from unnecessarily sliding around when things get slippery, and the aforementioned mesh and ripstop materialization equate to the Tornado 4 H2O pants’ CE AA certification class.

Sizing Information

We measured and tried on a selection of these pants and developed the table below to help you choose a size that is right for you. REVIT publishes a sizing chart but strangely they offer hip measurements rather than waist measurements, and in the US, waist measurements are the norm. Please note, the sizes listed in the chart are NOT “vanity” sized like typical jeans sold in the US (meaning jeans that measure out larger than the stated size), so buying based on a jean size maybe result in a REVIT pant choice that is too small. We recommend you either measure your waist or measure pants you already own (use the instructions below for help in measuring).

These pants are available in regular, short and tall inseam sizes, so we’ve included inseam lengths in the chart as well. The pants have adjustability of the armor height (independent of inseam length). Velcro tabs in the armor pockets allows you to set the armor at different heights in the pant leg. You can check how the armor feels on your knee when you are sitting on the bike and decide which position seems best. Neat!

Also, the pants have an adjustable strap arrangement at the waist to help you fine tune the fit. We are showing a three inch range which was about what the adjusters seemed to do.

Pant Size Waist Estimate Inseam Reg Inseam Short Inseam Tall
Small 29-31 31.5 - -
Med 31-34 32.5 31 34.5
Large 33-36 33 31.5 35
XL 35-38 33.5 32 35.5
XXL 38-41 33.5 32 35.5
XXXL 41-44 34 32 -
XXXXL 43-46 34 - -

Measurement tips: You’ll want to measure yourself fairly high up the waist because protective style pants like this are cut to ride higher on your waist than a lot of modern jean styles. Just below the navel is about the right height on the waist for measurement.

Use as overpants: These pants will likely be used as both overpants over street clothes or as pants over underwear or shorts because many riders will be wearing these in the heat of summer. Since the waist of these pants is relatively high (as discussed above) the waist will ride above the waist line of normal jeans and therefore, I don’t think you will want to up-size with the idea of using them as overpants. But, I would advise that if you are pushing the upper limit of a size or you are between sizes, to choose the larger.

Our Two Cents

The Tornado 4 H2O pants from REV’IT! are a multi-season pant that has both great ventilation, high level of protection as well as the ability to be waterproof. These pants can be worn individually but are designed to pair perfectly with REV’IT!’s Tornado 4 jacket. Like the jacket these pants are in their 4th generation and have been a staple in REV’IT!’s line up for years. Designed as a touring style pant the Tornado 4s breathe plenty of air with the liner removed but also are waterproof when the 2L Hydratex waterproof liner is installed, additionally if things get cold the detachable thermal liner has your back, really allowing you to battle the weather regardless of if its wet or dry, warm or cold.

Overall construction of the pants features Polyester mesh, Polyester RipStop, Polyester Stretch, and of course the Hydratex liner. Overall this combination of materials has earned the Tornado 4s a CE Level AA abrasion resistance rating while providing a fit that is listed as regular, meaning that there will be minimal if any taper. For impact protection the Tornado 4 pants feature SEEFLEX CE-level 2 Knee Protectors and SEESMART CE-level 1 Hip Protectors, as well as soft spacer mesh protector pockets to ensure that armor components stay in place. To further enhance safety there is laminated reflection at the calves, and on the upper legs.

Additional features include adjustment straps at the calves and waist as well as adjustment tabs at the ankle. For convenience there are also slit pockets on the hips that are close via zipper as well as grip panels at the seat, these are especially great when you are riding in the rain/wet weather as they help you grip your seat. The Tornado 4 pants also feature a B-lock button closure at the front, stretch at the knees, a short connection zipper to match up to your jacket and stretch at the knees.

Overall the Tornado 4 H20 pants from REV’IT! can be used as regular pants or as overpants and provide great adjustability to help you deal with changing weather conditions. I especially like that there is plenty of ventilation on the back of the pants coming from the included mesh to keep your legs cool as you are sitting on your bike. If you are looking for a multi season pair of adventure or touring pants the Tornado 4s are a great place to start. :: Damir 4/27/24
