Merlin Taos Air Mesh D3O Pant
The Merlin Explorer Collection has been designed to complement the rise in accessible, do-it-all motorcycles, alongside the growing number of riders pushing themselves, exploring and creating memories. Explorer offers rugged styling, durability and protection while incorporating the signature Merlin styling using only the best materials and components, such as high performance single-layer laminated styles, Halley Stevensons® ripstop fabrics, D3O® armour and Cordura®.
Merlin Taos Air Mesh Stretch Jacket:- The Taos trouser features the same, great specification as it’s accompanying jacket to include; a unique stretch and brushed soft stretch polyester shell, with large ventilation panels. CE rated armour can be found inside the pockets with an easy, over the boot ankle adjustment closure and at the knee the pattern has been cut to pre-curve for more comfort on the bike. These are a fully certified trouser, not just the armour, so riders benefit from a lightweight and breathable adventure pant without compromise to safety or performance.
- To care for your jacket, remove all armour from the shoulders, elbows and back and also any removable inner liners. Use a lint-free brush or cloth to really get into any especially dirty areas, then hand-wash the jacket with a mild or diluted detergent in lukewarm water. Full care information can be found in the dedicated care guide here: Merlin Wash & Care.

Sizing Information
We measured and tried on a selection of these pants and we developed a size chart to help you choose a size based upon your waist and inseam. The size chart below is partially ours and partially Merlin’s chart. The largest waist size listed in the chart are with the waist adjusters full open. The waist size adjustment straps work pretty well to give you size adjustability… we estimate about 2” as the range indicates.
As you can see in the chart, the pants are available in regular, and short inseam sizes, so choose the inseam you normally wear in slacks or jeans.
Pant Size | Waist Range | Inseam Reg | Inseam Short |

Our Two Cents
The Taos Air Mesh stretch pant from Merlin are a part of their Explorer collection and are design to handle tougher environments that are brought on by touring and adventure riding. Overall construction is a combination of brushed poly stretch, high quality mesh panels, YKK® Zippers, and a fixed mesh liner. This combination has given the Taos Air mesh pants a CE Level A abrasion resistance rating.
Looking at protection and comfort/convenience features, these pants come with included D3O® LP1 Tri-Vented Knee and Hip Armor included and pre-fitted, a Fly Hook Fastener, and a Short Jacket-To-Jean Connecting Zipper. Other notable features include two zippered front top pockets, two slit rear pockets, velcro waist adjusters, and a zippered and velcro angle closure.
Overall the Taos Air Mesh pants in many ways look like an air or summer time version of Merlin’s Condor pant, though with different pocket designs and a lesser abrasion resistance. Overall the Taos pants fit quite comfortably, especially with the amount of adjustment featured in the waist tabs, and to note from a sizing perspective I wear a size 36 ot 38 depending on the brand, and the XL sized Taos Air mesh pants fit perfectly. Overall a solid pant for the money with them coming in at $179.99, but as fairly usual for Merlin gear, there is better protection out there in riding mesh pants for the money. :: Damir 7/3/24
