Our Two Cents
The new All Road H2Out Jacket by Spidi is a new “fully featured” touring/adventure jacket. And when I say full featured, I mean FULLY featured! It’s loaded with protection and climate control features. Armor is included for the shoulders and elbows and optional for the back and chest. Two removable liners are also included.
Wow! There are a LOT of features built into this jacket. I’m blown away with the level of detail in the design here. I can tell the folks at Spidi are into the details for sure. We sell a number of 3/4 length adventure/touring style jackets like this, and most are from other European brands with similar pedigrees and Spidi…. class leaders in quality and design. A person who is into details and doesn’t mind learning their gear and spending some time getting suited up will like this jacket. What am I talking about? Well, for starters, this jacket has a LOT of climate control features. There is a full sleeve waterproof liner, which can either be worn inside the jacket under the shell or over the entire jacket. The idea is to wear the liner OVER the jacket in downpours when there is a LOT of rain. With the liner over your entire jacket will be covered and kept dry. In lighter rain, fog or mist, they suggest wearing the liner under the shell so all your pockets and other features are still accessible, and also so the liner won’t be in the wind blast. The tail of the liner folds up or down and is secured with snaps when folded up. When you wear the liner inside the jacket, you snap the tail up so it doesn’t hang down past the tail of the jacket, but when you wear it over, you un-snap the tail to get coverage that is longer than the jacket under. This is just one example of the detail and design here and after you’ve worked through the options, I think you’ll find it works quite well.
Armor is included for this jacket in the shoulders and elbows. It is Spidi’s Warrior Lite armor which is CE level one. The design is VERY flexible and light and will be quite comfortable for long rides. The jacket is fitted with a pocket and Velcro to mount one of the optional back protectors. I’ve listed the options below, and if you click through to any of those back protectors, there is a pretty good discussion of the similarities and differences between them to help you decide which one you want.
You can also add chest protection inside this jacket. The Warrior Chest Protector is a one piece unit that fits over the chest and is held in place by two snaps on each size. There are corresponding snaps inside the jacket. Since the chest protector isn’t fitted into pockets you’ll have to secure the chest protector each time you put the jacket on. It’s worth a mention than MOST brands tackle chest protection by selling two “half chest” pieces that fit into pockets each side of the main zipper. I would guess the one-piece setup is more protective since it goes the full width of the chest, but is less convenient.
I told you about the liner situation for use in rain. Those liners also make up part of the climate control system too. The removable thermal liner can be used in cooler weather to give insulation and it is very nice. But in warmer weather, you’ll be removing both liners and open up the vent system. I won’t go into all the details, but in front, there are two fold-away panels that expose large mesh areas on the chest. And on each sleeve are LONG zippered vents to send air up the sleeves. And finally, in back, there is another very large fold-away panel. So with all the vents open and the liners removed you should get a LOT of air flowing through this jacket to make it comfortable in hot weather.
The fit of this jacket is pretty easy, but the jackets run small overall, so be sure and have a look at our sizing advice. There are a number of side adjusters on the jacket to help you find tune the fit… even the collar has an adjustment mechanism! :: Paul, 02-17-20
Spidi says: Combining 3 jackets in 1 is a priority for us since 1994 when we introduced the first ever motorcycle jacket featuring this construction System. Millions of miles and thousands of riders have helped us to improve the range year after year. SPIDI Allroad represents the ultimate evolution, the summa of all our knowledge in this field. The main chassis integrates high-tenacity Extra Tenax 3-layers nylon 6.6 – offering excellent abrasion and puncture resistance – and a PU coated polyester, in comfort-sensitive areas. The Allroad jacket has CE certification to the Pr En 17092-3:2017 Class AA standard, and it comes with ForceTech removable protectors in the shoulders and elbows, that are CE Level 2 certified to the EN 1621-1:2012 standard. The jacket also features the innovative InsideOut System, a waterproof 3-layers H2Out 10K/10K membrane that can be worn inside the jacket during a light rain, or outside in case of thunderstorms. The membrane has adjustable “gaiters” to adapt for the InsideOUT use. There are 3M® Scotchlite® reflectors for excellent nighttime visibility and there’s a jacket-to-pant zipper connection for additional safety. In order to ensure that the jacket can be tailored to fit perfectly, it has the SPIDI integrated adjustment Ergofit System, with an adjustable E.S.T. fastener on the collar. For those unexpected rain showers, there’s a waterproof outside pocket, offering double protection when you have the waterproof H2Out liner on the outside.
