Sizing Information
We tried a size Medium and an XL on our Fit Check mannequins Huey and Dewey. Those are sizes they usually wear in an “American” cut jacket. This jacket from REV’IT! fits well enough and it looks sharp, but there is very minimal room left. Many brands from Europe exhibit a fit like this, such as Alpinestars. If you look at REV’IT!’s published size chart (below), you’ll see their estimate of chest size is at least a full size smaller than what you’d find in equivalent US designed clothing.
We measured each jacket and tried them on and we’ve concluded that the fit is just about one-half size smaller than what you would find in ordinary US men’s clothing. The amount the jackets are undersized is not as severe as REV’IT!’s size chart would have you believe. For most people, this means you’ll be able to buy the size you normally wear if you want a snug, European style fit. If you want a looser American fit, or if you are between sizes, choose one size larger.
Below is the REV’IT!-published chest size for each jacket’s alpha size along with our estimate of max chest and max waist/belly. This particular style is not a “sport” oriented style so there is not a lot of taper from chest to waist, and with a style like this you can effectively tailor the fit of the waist with the side waist adjusters, which makes the jacket look great and fit great, so don’t worry if your waist/belly is smaller than the max. We only list this for those that have a belly so they can know what minimum size they’d have to choose to fit the belly.

Sizing Tip for Those Using Upgraded Armor: Adding upgraded back protection and chest pads will take up some room in the jacket so when making your size selection add to your chest size if you plan on using the thicker back protection and/or chest protectors. I’d advise you to add 1” if you use an upgraded back pad and also an inch for chest pad upgrades. So if you plan on buying both, then add a full 2” to your chest size before making your size selection.
Our Two Cents
The Ridge is a bulletproof touring or commuting style jacket made with the most durable and waterproof Gore-Tex shell offered by REVIT. It’s a simple design, but the beauty is in the functionality without complication.
First off… a unique thing about the Ridge GTX for 2018 is the Limited Availability. Each jacket is numbered from 1 to 500 and that is all they will be making (at least in this color scheme). Rarity is value for some, and it’s such a unique thing for motorcycle apparel, I thought it was worth a good mention.
The shell of the Ridge is the same spec as in their Dominator and Poseidon 2 jackets (their two best for 2018/2019). It is a heavy duty bonded Gore-Tex fabric. The Gore-Tex waterproofing is bonded to the back of the shell material to give the most bulletproof waterproofing in the business. Because the Gore-Tex is bonded to the shell, and not a separate layer behind the shell, it means the shell won’t get “waterlogged” and won’t get heavy and hard to dry out after a rain. This jacket also has a removable neck gator that will effectively extend the height of the collar to give complete coverage as high as possible. There is a lot of design work into this collar… it is also Gore-Tex backed and has a bit of elastic at the top to seal well. It also has a zippered connection to the jacket so you can completely remove it in dry weather. And the closure in front is a combination of Velcro and a magnet to make it easy and quick. It’s really quite a rig to round out the total waterproofing package.
For warmer and dry weather use, you’ll appreciate this jacket’s unique venting setup. It has the usual zip vents in front… one on each bicep and it has a pair of longer zip vents in back to let the cooling air pass through the jacket. But the unique feature here is the mesh panel situated behind the main zipper. You close the jacket with the long zip on that mesh panel and leave the main waterproof zipper open. In this configuration, you get a full-length direct vent that is approximately 2” wide! A vent of this size will outperform any number of smaller zip vents because it is front and center an also can’t partially close. It will be wide open to the wind blast.
So with the excellent venting and the bulletproof waterproofing, and if you add your own layering for cold weather, this jacket ought to perform well for you in nearly all conditions. It won’t do as well as a mesh style in the hottest days of summer, but that would be the only thing that would perform better in summer and really, the comparison is apples and oranges anyway. For most people, this jacket would easily be a four season jacket.
The armor package here is also the same as the Dominator and Poseidon 2 jackets. Level 2 armor is already in the shoulders and elbows. And then, you can add a level 2 back pad and level 1 chest pads. For a jacket that is geared toward touring or commuting, the combination of all the armor is comprehensive. See the description of the armor upgrades for the chest and back below.
As with most longer jacket styles like this, you get a great selection of pockets. In addition to the front pockets, there is a large fanny pocket in back. And down low on the inside of the jacket is a “hidden” pocket where you can store some valuables. Reflectives are added front, side and back to give you good night time visibility. And in daylight, they are colored darker to fit with the styling scheme.
The Ridge will make some commuters and touring riders very happy and dry, but only 500 of them! :: Paul, 11-20-18
Add a Back Protector: This jacket is made with a pocket to accept a Seesoft CE Level 2 Back Protector Insert type RV (RV refers to the shape). For sizes Small or Medium, choose size 4; for Large thru XXL, choose size 5 and for XXXL and larger choose size 6.
Add Chest Protectors: Choose the Seesoft Divided Chest Protector using the link below. One size fits all. You get two chest protector pieces. The two pieces install in pockets on each side of the jacket’s main front zipper.
REVIT says: The Ridge GTX jacket is unique in many ways. It’s loaded with all the tech you need in terms of a touring jacket but is executed with a minimalist design. We blend two worlds together to create something that will appeal to a wide range of riders. The laminated 3L GORE-TEX® outer shell guarantees to keep you dry whilst maintaining the highest level of breathability on the planet. For the Ridge GTX, we developed a completely new color that will only be released in a limited edition of 500 pieces. In more challenging weather, your neck will be protected by the removable GORE-TEX® storm collar. We also added neoprene in the chin area to keep the comfort at a high level. In case the weather clears up, you can store the storm collar in the stealth back pocket. Our award-winning SEEFLEX™ CE-level 2 armor is located at the elbows and shoulders and, if desired, you can upgrade the protection level by addinga SEESOFT™ CE-level 2 back protector into the already-prepared insert and/or add our SEESOFT™CE-level 1 chest protectors.
