Sizing Information

We tried a size Medium and an XL on our Fit Check mannequins Huey and Dewey. Those are sizes they usually wear in an “American” cut jacket. This jacket from REV’IT! fits well enough and it looks sharp, but there is very minimal room left. Many brands from Europe exhibit a fit like this, such as Alpinestars. If you look at REV’IT!’s published size chart (below), you’ll see their estimate of chest size is at least a full size smaller than what you’d find in equivalent US designed clothing.

We measured each jacket and tried them on and we’ve concluded that the fit is just about one-half size smaller than what you would find in ordinary US men’s clothing. The amount the jackets are undersized is not as severe as REV’IT!’s size chart would have you believe. For most people, this means you’ll be able to buy the size you normally wear if you want a snug, European style fit. If you want a looser American fit, or if you are between sizes, choose one size larger.

Below is the REV’IT!-published chest size for each jacket’s alpha size along with our estimate of max chest and max waist/belly. This particular style is not a “sport” oriented style so there is not a lot of taper from chest to waist, and with a style like this you can effectively tailor the fit of the waist with the side waist adjusters, which makes the jacket look great and fit great, so don’t worry if your waist/belly is smaller than the max. We only list this for those that have a belly so they can know what minimum size they’d have to choose to fit the belly.

Sizing Tip for Those Using Upgraded Armor: Adding upgraded back protection and chest pads will take up some room in the jacket so when making your size selection add to your chest size if you plan on using the thicker back protection and/or chest protectors. I’d advise you to add 1” if you use an upgraded back pad and also an inch for chest pad upgrades. So if you plan on buying both, then add a full 2” to your chest size before making your size selection.

Our Two Cents

The REVIT Trench GTX jacket offers the rugged construction and armor protection you find in their high end adventure jackets but packages it in a more refined style for urban riders (or anybody looking for a more dressy style). CE Level 2 armor is included for the shoulders and elbows. Chest and back armor is optional.

The shell of this jacket is a bonded Gore-Tex material meaning the Gore-Tex layer is bonded to the shell material. That means you get a more breathable waterproofing layer, but also one that is tough and will give the abrasion resistance you need for being on a bike. The colors offered here remind be of the Livingstone jacket (another style in their city collection), but this material is MUCH more tough feeling.

For cold weather use, this jacket comes with a removable full sleeve liner. For summer use, REVIT has incorporated two large vents into the upper chest area. Its not just a zippered vent, but its a whole panel that opens and folds back to expose are pretty large area on front to grab the passing air. Those panels stay closed with Velcro and a side zipper so all you have to do to deploy the venting is raise the zip, grab the edge of the flap and yank it open. And then secure the corner of the flap to the snap that is built in. You could do it easily without looking. Two rear vents are hidden in the gusset behind the arms. Overall, I’d say this jacket would work well for all seasons except maybe hot summer months. But for all other temps and especially for wet weather use, this one will keep up for sure.

The armor package is where this jacket will outshine almost any other “city” style jacket. Level 2 armor is already in the shoulders and elbows, which is the same heavy duty stuff REVIT adds to their best adventure jackets. And then, you can add a level 2 back pad and level 1 chest pads. That whole armor package is about as good as it gets in any style or brand of jacket short of an air bag equipped unit.

REVIT’s marketing description below pretty well captures their intentions with this style, so have a look below. It might look dressy, but its built like a tank. :: Paul, 10-23-18

Add a Back Protector: This jacket is made with a pocket to accept a Seesoft CE Level 2 Back Protector Insert type RV (RV refers to the shape). For sizes Small or Medium, choose size 4; for Large thru XXL, choose size 5 and for XXXL and larger choose size 6.

Add Chest Protectors: Choose the Seesoft Divided Chest Protector using the link below. One size fits all. You get two chest protector pieces. The two pieces install in pockets on each side of the jacket’s main front zipper.

REVIT says: The Trench GTX jacket was developed with a specific purpose in mind: to create an urban jacket with all the high-end touring features one would need if they chose to venture outside of the city walls. The result? Just that. We made a commuting jacket that is road ready 365 days a year, geared toward long-distance riders. The laminated GORE-TEX® outer shell is extremely breathable and, as you would expect, 100% waterproof. Being a laminated outer shell, the water pick-up is virtually non-existent, so the jacket stays dry and lightweight all the time. Unparalleled, on-demand airflow is provided by our patented VCS|aquadefence ventilation system, conveniently positioned at the chest, yet nicely integrated into the design. Hot and humid air that could potentially get trapped inside the jacket can easily escape through the air outlet vents around back. In terms of protection, the Trench GTX jacket has got it all. SEEFLEX™ CE-level 2 armor is found at the elbows and shoulders, and it’s also prepared for the SEESOFT™ CE-level 2 back protector.
