Icon Stormhawk Jacket

The Stormhawk™ jacket is our latest foray into the weatherproof riding category. The low-key exterior is a durable 4-way stretch textile, backed with a waterproof/breathable Hycor membrane – perfect for three-season riding. Internally the jacket is reinforced with 600d polyester fabric for improved abrasion resistance. The Stormhawk™ comes standard with D3O® CE-Certified LP1 shoulder and elbow impact protectors. The LP1 protectors are more breathable and flexible than previous generations of impact protectors, improving the jacket’s overall comfort. The jacket also includes a D3O® Viper back impact protector and full-length insulated liner for colder weather riding. Should your ride include more temperate locations, the large exterior front & back vents, sealed with YKK® Aquagard™ zippers, provide significant airflow. The Stormhawk™ Jacket can be worn individually or zipped directly to the Stormhawk™ Pant.

Sizing Information

These jackets are sold in US based “alpha” sizes, but we found them to be oversized by about a size and a half. Icon calls this their “relaxed fit” and it is definitely sized to go over a larger frame or other garments. The size Medium and XL jackets fit Huey and Dewey, our Fit Check mannequins very loosely as you can see if you take the “View Larger Images” link above. We checked several sizes with a tape and developed the size chart below. Our primary advice would be to choose the size you normally wear in men’s clothing if you intend to wear the jacket over multiple layers or body armor. However, if you only intend to wear the jacket over a light layer or shirt then we suggest you try one size smaller than you normally wear.

We’ve developed our own size chart based on measurements we took here at the shop. You can use this size chart to check your own measurements while wearing the gear you intend to wear under the jacket against the size chart to make sure the size you select will work. Choose a size that is big enough for both your chest and belly.

The max waist of a jacket style like this is the same as the chest measurement, meaning it is a boxy fit.

Jacket Size Chest Range Waist/Belly Range
Small 38 – 41 36 – 40
Medium 42 – 44 40 – 43
Large 45 – 47 43 – 46
XL 48 – 50 46 – 49
XXL 51 – 53 49 – 52
XXXL 54 – 56 52 – 54

Our Two Cents

The Icon Stormhawk jacket is new to Icon’s line-up for 2021.

The 4-way stretch material on the Stormhawk jacket makes it simple to find the right fit. The jacket is generously sized so you can wear it over other gear if you wanted to use it as an armored rain gear option. There is a removable full sleeve thermal liner and D3O LP1 armor is included in the shoulders and elbows along with a D3O Viper back protector.

There are two large cargo style storage pockets and two hand warmer pockets on the belly. The hand warmer pockets have a mesh stopper at the bottom of the zipper to keep small items from falling out when the pocket is fully unzipped. You get two bicep vents and two large back exhaust vents to pull some air through the jacket. The cuffs use a hook and loop closure so you can adjust the fit.

The Stormhawk has a matching pant so you can match them up for a full waterproof suit. The short connection zippers are included in both garments.

This jacket is a good option for someone looking for a forgiving fit and a stretch waterproof shell. With the thermal liner and venting, you should be good in warm to cool temperatures in wet or dry weather. :: Mike, 01/03/22
