Icon PDX3 Jacket

Raised on the rain-soaked streets of Portland, the ICON design team knows a few things about wet weather riding. The CE-certified PDX3, named after our home city, combines the necessity of a fully-taped waterproof/breathable shell with premium D3O impact protectors in the elbows, shoulders, and back. In addition, the pit zips provide additional venting ability while the hood rolls up for riding.

Sizing Information

We tried the size Medium in this jacket on Huey and we put an XL jacket on Dewey. Both jackets fit, but there wasn’t a lot of room for error in both the waist and chest. This style has a bit more of a trim fit than most Icon jackets. We generally advise people to buy the size they normally wear in men’s clothing, and I’d stick with that advice on this style as well IF you like a trim fit and you have an average or thinner frame. If you like more room and/or you have a more stout build, then I’d advise you to go up one size.

Below is the size chart offered by Icon and in the case of this style, I’d say it is just about right. If you measure and use the chart you may well find yourself buying one size larger than usual.

Size Icon’s Chest Est Our Max Belly
Small 36-38 34
Medium 38-40 36
Large 40-42 38
XL 42-44 40
XXL 46-48 44
XXXL 48-50 46

Our Two Cents

The Icon PDX3 Jacket is made from a breathable waterproof material and is a good option for urban/commuter riders.

The PDX3 jacket is the third generation of the PDX jacket line named after Icon’s hometown of Portland, OR. This generation sees the material upgraded to a full Hycor™ waterproof/breathable shell with 300D polyester reinforcements in key impact areas. The outer shell has a cross-hatch pattern for ripstop as well. The hood has pull cord adjusters and can also be “rolled and stowed” using the hook and loop strap on the back and feeding it through the hoop stitched inside the jacket near the collar before sticking it to the opposite side of the hood. This makes the collar a little bulky, but it works.

The PDX3 has two large zippered external storage pockets at the belly. There are also large zippered underarm vents to help with airflow direct to the body. Hook and loop adjusters at the forearm and wrist and drawcord adjusters at the waist get a customized fit. There is a removable thermal vest that zips in on each side of the chest for warmth in colder conditions.

The Icon PDX3 comes with a full complement of D3O CE level 1 armor in the elbows, shoulders, and back. There is also plenty of reflective material on the chest, sleeves, cuffs, and back for great visibility. Icon’s trademark St. Christopher medallion is a little tricky to find in this one, they have it in a small pocket within the back protector pocket.

The Icon PDX3 Jacket pairs well with the PDX3 Overpants and gloves to make a full waterproof and breathable commuter outfit. It’s ideal for the typical weather in its namesake city which is cool and rainy. The large vents under the arms will allow you to use this jacket up to some pretty warm temperatures as well. :: Mike, 10/25/2022
