Highway 21 Gearhead Jacket

Bringing together technical ability and strength, the Gearhead jacket was developed with the inner mechanic in mind. Hard work is in Highway 21’s blood, and the results are a reflection of what they are willing to sacrifice to get there. Whether you’re changing oil, rebuilding an engine, or just pounding pavement, the Gearhead jacket is always the right fix.

Sizing Information

We checked the fit on these jackets with our size mannequins and we also spot checked a few different size jackets with a tape. We feel this model runs true to size. The jackets are sold in ordinary “alpha” sizes, so you can choose the size you normally wear in men’s clothing.

For those that want to check the size based upon their chest measurement, we put together the chart below. This chart shows the chest size ranges for each jacket and max belly. The taper on the jackets is very mild, so most people (even those with a bit of a belly) should easily find a fit. Just make sure the size you choose will be big enough for both your chest and belly. if you have a more athletic build (big drop from chest to belly size), then this one might not be a good choice since there isn’t any adjustability on the fit of the waist. Average to stout people should find an easy fit.

Jacket Size Max Chest Max Belly
Small 40 38
Medium 42 40
Large 44 42
XL 46 44
XXL 49 47
XXXL 52 50
XXXXL 56 54

Our Two Cents

The Highway 21 Gearhead jacket is a combination of a hoody and a textile street jacket. The hoody under the textile shell is basically a Industry Hoody. Adding the textile jacket over the hoody adds a layer of abrasion resistance you wouldn’t otherwise have with the cotton blend hoody and it also adds a windproofing component as well. And the hoody underneath gives a layer of insulation so you’ll be able to wear this combo into the cooler months of the year.

Out of the box, the jacket comes with the hoody zipped into the shell and elbow and shouider armor are installed in pockets inside the textile shell. And the back pad is in the hoody. If you decide you want to wear just the hoody or just the textile shell, and you want the armor, then you can move those armor pieces.

The manufacturer says “water resistant” shell, but I’d take that with a grain of salt. The shell material might shed some water, but the main zipper isn’t waterproof, so after a short time in the rain, you’ll be getting wet.

This jacket offers a lot of versatility for those wanting a cruiser styled jacket, and for those who want to wear just a hoody from time to time. :: Paul, 03-01-18
