Alpinestars Atem V5 Leather Jacket
- Atem v5 Leather Jacket is a racing jacket engineered and optimized for sports bike riders, with race-derived features, technology and materials including a dedicated ‘Race’ fit with pre-curved arms for maximum riding performance
- Alpinestars Flex Plus ‘Race’ leather throughout, race-proven protection on the shoulders and elbows, while delivering optimum levels of rider comfort

Another key advantage of using A-CS® Plus is superior stretch performance; A-CS® Plus has about 30 percent elongation, and offers an increase in tear resistance of 300% compared to HRSF (Hyper Resistant Stretch Fiber), and an increase in cut resistance by 600% versus leather
- RIDEKNIT® engineered inner arms; combines high abrasion and tear resistance with high flexibility, comfort and mechanical stretch while still delivering superior comfort and high levels of breathability
- Flex Plus bovine ‘Race’ leather construction is 10% lighter than regular bovine leather, while delivering 80% more adaptability for superior freedom of movement, an ultra-adaptive race fit, and enhanced abrasion and tear resistance
- Extensive technical stretch panels under the arms, on the inner arms, and around the neck for an optimized fit
- 3D pattern body mapping for an enhanced race fit
- Dual density DFS RR shoulder and elbow protectors for superior friction control

Sizing Information
This product is sold in European sizes. The overall sizing of the jackets is accurate to the Alpinestars sizing chart for overall chest size (US chest size in inches is 10 points less than the European jacket size). I’d suggest you measure yourself with a tape and get your chest size, and if you have a bit of a belly you can also check your max belly. If you know your suit coat size, that works too. Then you can use the size chart to pick the smallest size jacket that will be big enough for both your chest and belly using the chart below.
This is a sport cut jacket and has a trim fit, so if you are between sizes, I’d suggest choosing the larger. To help with those that have a more broad chest, this model has a great deal of flexible fabric material in the underarm and behind the shoulders. And those stretch areas really do stretch a lot.
Sizing Tip for Those Using Upgraded Armor: If you plan to add the protective armor to this jacket, I’d suggest adding to your chest and belly measurements before choosing a size using the chart. Add 1” to both your chest and belly for adding any of the back protectors. If you plan on adding the chest armor, add another inch to the chest. So for both the chest and back armor, add 2” to your chest and 1” to your belly.

Our Two Cents
The Atem V5 leather jacket from Alpinestars is a racing jacket that is suitable for both the track and the street. Overall construction of the jacket is primarily Alpinestars Flex Plus Race Leather (bovine leather construction), RIDEKNIT® engineered inner arms, Alpinestars composite stretch technology, A-CS® Plus, stretch panels on the torso for exceptional breathability, comfort, and freedom of movement, and extensive technical stretch panels under the arms, inners arms and around the neck. Overall this combination of materials yields a CE Level AA abrasion resistance rating. Additional protection against impact comes from the included Nucleon Flex Plus CE Level 1 shoulder and elbow armor internally as well as the GP style elbow and Shoulder armor externally (external armor is Dual density DFS RR). Additionally this jacket is both Tech-Air® 5 and Tech-Air® 3 Ready.
Looking at comfort and convenience, the Atem V5 jacket has two internal pockets, one is mesh and one is waterproof, two zipper pockets on the front, and plenty of adjustability. Also as mentioned above there is RIDEKNIT® on the inner arms that make the jacket extremely flexible and comfortable to wear when considering that it is a leather jacket. Honestly if you haven’t checked out RIDEKNIT® in person, I do highly recommend it, I have been impressed with just about every piece of Alpinestars gear that features RIDEKNIT®. Additionally this jacket does feature a “race hump” which also can double as a place to keep a hydration pouch.
Overall this is one of the more comfortable leather sport/race jackets that I have worn and to me it is one of the better looking Alpinestars jackets as well. At times race jackets are too boring or on the exact opposite end, too loud (Astars is sometimes guilty of this, typically by putting too many logos on the jacket) but in this case I think the Atem jacket is really nicely designed, it is loud enough, without going too far. My main complaint about this jacket is the fact that it is AA rated. For what I would consider a full blown race or track day jacket (I consider any jacket with a race hump just that, as I don’t really feel the need for a race hump on the street) I would expect, or at the minimum would want it to be AAA rated as I believe it would typically be used in high speed activities. Other than the disappointment in the AA vs AAA rating, I think the jacket is excellent overall. : Damir 7/26/24
