Below is the Merlin-published chest size for each jacket’s alpha size along with our estimate of max chest and max waist/belly. This particular style is a casual style so there is only a moderate taper from chest to waist.
Note: Add about 1” to your chest and belly measurements if you plan to add a back protector.

Our Two Cents
The Merlin Brody D3O® Single Layer Riding shirt is a part of Merlin’s Heritage Collection and is designed to blend classic off the bike style, with modern protection, if you are looking for protective riding gear that doesn’t look like protective riding gear you are in line with Merlin’s vision for this riding shirt. Overall construction of the Brody shirt is a combination of a single layer, 4 way active stretch twill cotton, a premium close-knit mesh lining, YKK® Zippers as well as a Halley Stevensons® Waxed Cotton and Reissa® waterproofing. This construction allowed the Brody riding shirt to earn a CE Level AA abrasion resistance rating. Moving on to impact protection, included are the D3O® Ghost Shoulder And Elbow Protectors as is a back protector pocket where you can add in your own protector (Merlin recommends the D3O® Viper Stealth Back Protector), all included and mentioned protectors are rated CE Level 1.
Moving on to comfort and convenience, there is a rear ventilation panel, a snap down collar, a jacket to jean connecting zipper as well as a euro hoop connecting strap. Additional features include Merlin Branded Antique Brass Snap studs for added style, a zipped outer arm pocket, internal storage pockets, two side entry zippered pockets as well as two patch pockets with Merlin branded snaps. Overall a fairly simple, yet good looking and functional, single layer riding shirt.
Coming in at the price point of $329.95 the Brody Riding Shirt from Merlin is right in line with other CE AA abrasion resistance rated riding shirts from other brands like REV’IT!, and doesn’t visibly offer any additional value or benefit versus its competition. This is not to say that it is a bad shirt or not worth getting, I am simply stating that choosing it over some of its competitors would primarily be a subjective taste decision rather than one based off of features or value. I will say however, that the overall material and general feel of the jacket is quite comfortable and it provides a really high amount of stretch considering its design. :: Damir 7/19/24
